Yea im wondering the same thing and if he can get on here before i have to leave for work we may be able to pull this off.
I just set up my virtual linux with evilsperm's image. all the tools are there and ready to use so if he can tell me what has to be done i can do it. I wish he would get online here.:p
to Pyong: doesn't boot, of course
to barnhilltrckn: yes, going on ps3dev seems to be a good idea...
...I wouldn't even know where to start. Does anybody have any idea? Anyway, I tried asking on ps3dev about making ps1_emu.elf back to a self. They say there's no way right now, since make_self_npdrm wouldn't work for the selfs in dev_flash (they're not supposed to be signed like the ones you find in games and such) and both makeself (f0f) and make_self don't work and were left unfinished. On purpouse, maybe?
What about the make_fself.exe from you know where?? *whistle*
Slynk was working on fixing the issue... selfs in the flash are pretty straightforward signed/encrypted executables. Geohot created one just fine with his "Hello World" lv2diag.self file. The problem always seems to revolve around correctly creating the encrypted sections. From some of the IRC transcripts I've seen, it appears that Team fail0verflow intentionally hobbled the tools to stymie everybody else on development. Kind of a low thing to do, if the goal of the scene is to encourage homebrew.
We should at least be working with functional tools.
...so the only thing really working that can actually use the keys is Geohot's npdrm tool, and it only uses a specific subset of the keys, which Sony blacklisted (Geohot could give up the master npdrm key, and we'd be able to execute apps on 3.56, assuming we could install them, of course, because we could create any subset we wanted from them)
I lost track of whether Slynk managed to create a good tool to MAKE the selfs... he did create some good tools to decrypt and analyze selfs, for sure.
Ok, what about editing those High Def PS2 games you can buy off the PSN? Like injecting an iso into the file, and removing DRM so to speak.
I could be entirely wrong, but i guess this games aren't emulated but rather ported to the playstation 3,though I would be happy to be proven wrong
