Possible downgrade method...

Last year I downgraded a psp3000, perhaps this method is applicable to the ps3? Here is the thread: xgen and downgrading

afaik there is no way on unhackables PSPs unless there is a way i have missed .l

Try actually reading the discussion he posted a link to. It seems very risky to me, although I'm curious as to how far Hellcat got messing around with it.

FYI, he was on 5.03 GEN (temporary CFW), and replaced the index.dat with the index.dat from 5.00, then ran the 5.02 updater. As the index.dat encryption did not change between 5.00 and 5.03, the 5.00 index.dat worked on 5.03. All the 5.XX index.dat files had the same encryption, but it changed at 6.00, so on 6.XX firmwares (e.g. 6.20 via Patapon exploit and upcoming Total Noob HEN) the same trick could NOT be used to downgrade to 5.03 for quicker HEN access.

EDIT: As for its applicability to PS3: None, really. If you can replace files, then you clearly can run homebrew, and as there is only one exploit at the moment, there is no need to downgrade for an easier exploit, so the only time you would want to downgrade is if you were on 3.42 or 3.50, in which case how would you replace the necessary file? (I think PS3 does have index.dat, but I don't know anything about its encryption, i.e. if a lower firmwares index.dat would work with a newer firmware)

so basically we would need to find an exploit that would allow us to do some of the things things that the ps3 jailbreak does, but don't u need to be able access lvl 1? so u could copy the index.dat?? which we don't even have with the jailbreak atm? or am i wrong here
