what's your opinion about to substitute the XMB firmware with an Open Source Firmware, as U-boot, Smart Firmware, SLOF, Open boot, Open BIOS?

The IBM Cell document "Cell Broadband Engine CMOS SOI 65 nm Hardware Initialization Guide" describes the initialization procedure for the cell, so it's possible integrate this procedure into the firmwares above. We have to investigate if pins of the Cell processor to select the initialization procedure are all grounded...

The reason is to use Linux or an open source hypervisor, as k42 (K42/Tornado Operating System), as platform to develop applications, without references to Sony software.
