    Hi there,

I would appreciate any and every scrap of help I can get here, as I am entirely out of ideas.

My PS3 yesterday was left on during a very hot day. In the evening I went to go play Warhawk - a downloaded title from the Playstation Store - only to find when I launched the game, the screen would go blank. The PS button would not bring up the "Turn off Console/Controller" menu, and for however long I left it, the system was blank. I held down the power button and turned it off and left it overnight. This morning I tried it again, thinking it was just overheating, and was greeted by a YLOD - great, I thought. So I followed various guides to solve it. I now have now YLOD, but the issue still remains.

After some investigation, it seems anything I try to run - whether it be something like Playstation Home, a downloaded title or one of the TV and Movie applications (such as Netflix) - all result in a blank screen. The PS3 will boot fine, will detect a HDMI output fine, and I can use the menus and such as much as I like. It's as if the PS3 is half way there loading a title, and just gives up. I am not in a position to try a disc title, as my bluray drive is not functioning at current. I have tried the standard recovery menu, resetting the display, trying a different television (the PS3 is connected via HDMI - I can confirm that it is not the cable, nor the TV) and even went so far as to change the hard drive. But to no avail..

Has anyone had this problem, or heard of it, before?

Is it a Slim console??? what firmware are you on? Try reinstalling the firmware or rebuilding database in recovery menu. If it's software problem that should help.

    It's a 60GB fat running 4.21 OFW - CECHC03 - sorry I neglected to put that in the OP.

Reinstalling the firmware; I have followed all instructions on the web to reinstall by creating a PS3 folder, inside is an UPDATE folder, then the PUP file and the PS3 says it cannot find applicable update data on my thumb drive. Is there any information on doing this?

I just tried rebuilt the database via the recovery menu, and no difference I'm afraid

    Hi,

I've just tried both, and no luck. Thank you for your suggestion, but I think it's either a very serious hardware issue, or a very serious software issue. Either way I'm keen to try any type of fix!
