Hector Martin (Marcan42) developer of AsbestOS amongst other things has tweeted that he's turning his attention to bringing multi region support to ps3;
Taskswitching from AsbestOS again, I'll be back soon. Upcoming TODO: multi region support to ps3{hdd,flash}. BD looks like it'll be painful.
Hector Martin (marcan42) on Twitter
I have a number of region locked Blurays and PSX games, so look forward to any progress that he makes.

sounds like it wont be easy, and sounds like asbestos has hit a problem. i doubt hed drop devving the first true linux os for ps3 to play a few psx games on his ps3.
i forsee he had some issues with something and needs a break to enter the situation in a new state of mind.

See this is the problem with the ps3 scene, It appears to be every dev for him/herself.
Yeah theres a few dev teams working on various projects, but anyone can claim there a team and be just one or two people, we dont really know unless we hear from more then one team member.
When i hear marcan was working on linux for the ps3 i was expecting bushing and the rest of team twizers to take part, but it seems its just marcan.
Not that he cant handle it himself, im sure he can over time, but we really need some devs to start collaborating with each other if we are to keep up with sony.

it's the old saying... those that can .... DO ... & .... Those that can not PREACH... As a project gets larger the weaker either die off or learn& help as they grow. question is... which are you?? (motivational general question)

Well we know Marcan is a smart guy, but he may have even bit off a little too much with his Linux project.
Honestly I'd rather see the homebrew devs get the more practical stuff out of the way, such as removing region locks and post 3.41 firmware support.

i think most "teams" don't feel comfortable with releasing their sources. and asbestos is gpl. on marcan's end it's as open for collaboration as it can get. there are people hacking asbestos for smaller storage devices (just google it), though.
ps3 is still an unknown territory. and there is still a lot to do with asbestos.
i suppose marcan started hacking on something else, in order to acquire extra info that will help him with those missing parts.
