the actual laser diode, or the laser assembly (the entire piece that slides on the rails)? the laser diode is kind of a pain to de-solder, even trickier to re-solder a new one back in... and then you have to somehow align it properly. pretty much impossible without the proper alignment tools. and that's even considering the idea that you can actually GET just the diode, since they stopped manufacturing that particular diode almost 2yrs ago.... even china doesnt manufacture the diodes anymore!

good luck in trying to find one.... and yes, it's still a pain to get it IN the assy, solder skills or not. it's a tight fit with a HIGHLY static sensitive diode. and yes, you WILL need special equipment for aligning the diode INSIDE the assy

i dont know of any webpages or documentation that describes the exact procedure. i dont even think it was ever released. the few people i knew that did it learned by trial & error. i hope your source for diodes are NEW/old stock, because i know for a fact that they stopped new production of them 2yrs ago

they arent on this forum... they were repair center affiliates i sometimes sourced parts from in the years i've been repairing ps3s. nowadays, i just get the laser assembly vs trying to mess with the diode - which is what i suggest you do too. in the long run, getting the part then sending it to someone to align it will probably cost more than just getting a laser assembly already assembled. check ebay for lasers....

well do you have these information so i can talk to them . like i say i have 5 dead lasers that need the diode and i don't want to throw them away ?

like i previously mentioned, you're better off getting replacement laser assemblies, versus replacing just the diodes. it's cheaper, because to actually send the diode replaced units out and have them aligned will probably cost you ~$60US for EACH assembly to be aligned. considering you can get replacement laser assemblies for just about the same price as the alignment alone, it's cheaper to just get replacements....
