    It's not actually firmware it's a security sector which may need to be removed to work in the ps3.

    Thanks, ive tried that but since the drive has been re-formatted many times before - its no longer in FATX filing format hence the xplorer program doesnt recognise it!

    I will be getting a new HDD soon, see if that resolves the issue... Ill post back when i get it!

    Well good luck to you. I have been getting the "correct hard drive not found" on every hard drive I've tried since my PS3 shit itself the day after boxing day. I've tried googling it and asking on numerous forums. But other than the "engineer's menu" trick (which only tells me the same thing) no one appears to have heard of this issue before.
