Games suddenly stopped working.
Games suddenly stopped working. –
I bought my ps3 from second hand with a faulty disc reader or something, anyway i used it to browse the web, and somehow realised that i can play demos and games downloaded from ps store. In order to do it I had to download a game, start it and press the button on ps3 to release the disk, it was making a strange noise like a machine gun for about 15-20sec and after that I could play. If i wouldn't do that black screen would appear and ps3 would freeze. Suddelny the trick stopped working and i dont know what do, what should i replace, is this the logic board or maybe whole disc reader, im green in this subjcet. Laser is working, i saw it flashing when i opened the disk reader.
If there anywhere a thread like mine with solution can you please send or post a url or something? I tried to find it on my own but no luck.
Thanks for the help.
I have 40GB PS3 (fat),
Disk reader - KEM- 400AAA
Logic Board - BMD - 002
P.S I dont have any way to check this on other Ps3 as i dont have other one or i dont know anyone who has.
i had a ps3 brought to me with this problem when i opened it up 1 of the white plastic pieces had come off so i put it back in place an it started accepting the discs and ejecting them fine however it would not read the discs anymore so i decided to just replace the full drive at the owners cost of course but it works fine now maybe try looking to make sure the same hasnt happened but if u decide to replace the whole thing make sure u buy the right 1 and u have to change the logic board on them
The thing is i want to cut costs to minimum, is it possible to just buy maching logic board and connect it to console just to play downloaded games or demos?
NO, you can not swap logic boards. You must use the one married to your PS3. You can replace the drive with same type and use your old logic board on it.
You can not even play downloaded games without a MARRIED logic board.
If you had FW 3.55 or lower there is a way to remarry a different board, but not above 3.55!
If the logic board is NFG you are pretty much SOL.
You could send it to a service shop that can swap and solder BGA chips to another board but any competent place is going to charge you more than it's probably worth.
Thanks for the info man, i was about to buy logic board... so im screwed.. i'm looking for new ps3 hopefully i will find something cheap.
From your description it didn't sound like a logic board issue anyway. Sounded like your disk loading gears are jammed....
