Emulating DualShock input from PC?
Emulating DualShock input from PC? –
I was wondering if it'd be possible to play some PS3 games with mouse+keyboard. I found that some games may support this input method, but the majority doesn't seem to.
I don't think it'd be feasible to have a deamon running on the PS3 to handle keyboard input while in a game.
So, as a workaround, would it be possible to hook up the PS3 to the PC (with a male-to-male USB gender changer cable), and have the PC send the emulated dualshock controller input, based on its own peripherals' (keyboard, mouse, joystick, whatnot) input?
Probably not, for the same reason that you never seen a PC used to "jailbreak" a PS3 when the dongles were all the rage - PC USB controllers are strictly host, not client. That's far too much of a faff, anyway. You can buy adapters that plug into the PS3 and let you control via a mouse and keyboard, although I'm not sure if Sony disabled them with their "no unauthorised peripherals" patch.

It's from Malto and all you need is a bluetooth dongle (in my case, a laptop with bluetooth), Ubuntu and pacience... because you'll have to calibrate, configure buttons and all that stuff but in the end you'll love it, belive me.

For Ubuntu you can use a LiveCD, a normal installation or maybe a preinstalled version like the VHD from VMlite (this is a little tricky and sometimes buggy... it worked for me but if you have the space/partition, install Ubuntu from scratch)
Anyway, the good thing about this project is that it has tutorials in 3 languages, articles and tools for mouse latency and articles about the dongles that you should/n't buy. Btw, v0.20 was release a couple of days ago but in the tutorial you'll have v0.15.1 which should work. I couldn't get v0.20 to work until now but 0.15.1 works perfectly (maybe for you it'll work without problems).
p.s. this project made me copy back some shooters, because they were really annoying to play with the ps3 controller
He did specifically say he wanted to use a Male-to-male USB cable, this project requires a Bluetooth Dongle.

This is true, I was just trying to clarify things for the OP as the site doesn't make it immediately clear how the software works, as impressive as it is.

for those who dont know what a plugin is on a psp, it was a prx file that would be loaded with the game, and you could use them with the game, such as cheat devices, joystick calibration, screenshots, save states, etc.
although sprx's could be extremely different.
Someday we'll have plugins that make the same thing as the diy open-source ps3 controller, in the background, but 'til then using a pc/laptop for those games that should use a mouse/keyboard isn't all that bad.
And I don't really think a plugin for this could get very configurable. Just look at Malto's software and everything it does in the background (or needs from you to configure = separate xml's for specific games/gameplay, mice with different latencies and what not)... And it would also demand some processing power from the ps3, which could have some impact on the gameplay. But who knows...
