Yes, right now you need a TB dongle if you want to play back ups of new games. I'm not to sure I understand the second question, but you can't get on PSN with custom firmware, if that is what you are asking.
hi thanks for your information
well you can play many of the latest games on DEX and as you may have noticed, recently many of the tboot eboots have been converted to work on normal 3.55 cfw so , NO, you do not need a true blue dongle anymore. (just wanted to make that clear for anyone else who happened upon the thread).
So TB is worthless now?
Ok I am hearing conflicting info on the TB dongle. Here is what I got...A ps3 w/ multiman, kmeaw, rip of twisted metal and prototype 2 used the eboot patches from a thread on ps3hax titled 180 eboot fixes
Twisted metal just goes back to the xmb, prototype 2 hangs on black screen for at least 15 minutes(then i shut it off)
First off. DO i need TB or no?
second. What are the settings I need to apply to make these and other games work. at present I have a 2tb external partitioned into a 32gb fat32 and both games are stored on it.
third, I have read somewhere about using ntfs format and being able to play games, I have an internal 40gb so dont really want to transfer games to internal, I have read you have to do this and I have read u don't. Is there anyway to either format a 2tb to fat 32 and have windows recognize it OR ntfs and play games right off of the external?
I know I know a lot of text but I am totally new tot he scene and have did plenty of googling (reason y i got so much conflicting info) and these questions have yet to have a definate answer.
Thanks to whoever can help
You do not need a TB dongle to play those games. You do need to make sure the fixes are NOT the fixes for the TB. To be sure get your fixes from ps3scenefiles.com. Go to the "Cracked True Blue Patches & Game Updates" or "PS3 Game Patches for CFW 3.41 and 3.55" sections.
I think the cobra dongle supports games running from NTFS. Windows should have no problem reading FAT32.
Ok just downloaded the files from "cracked true blue.... " will test asap and post results if not good :P
also wondering what my games settings should be ( i am guessing external of course since running off of an external drive, but like "bs mirror, direct boot, etc)
EDITTED TO SAVE SPACE
Nothing. Got same issues as before on both games. Prototype goes to neverending black screen and twisted metal goes to xmb. Have tried both with all possible combinations of game options and w/ and w/o a disc in drive.
EDITTED AGAIN:
Feeling like a noob (which i am) got twisted metal to run after it went to xmb I noticed the disc said twisted metal instead of game i had inserted. Still working on prototype 2 tho. Even with loading disc from xmb still get black screen.
