Is the only compiler and SDK around for the PS3 an illegal leaked copy? or is there a opensource gcc around for it yet?

yes, leaked SDK is illegal
gcc is always opensource. gcc with cell cpu support is already out, but not the libraries to build ps3 software with.
so we have the compiler and linker (toolchain), but we do not have the sdk portion. well, a bit is out there, but it's just a start atm.

http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=12176 - beginnings of sdk
ooPo, of the ps2dev toolchain, just created a ps3sdk and ps3toolchain on github a few minutes ago - github.com/ooPo
This should get interesting...
it's at least going to be easier to browse than that mercurial repo.
The development of an unoffical SDK for PS3 is still in the beginning stages, which is almost nonexistent. ooPo's had created a collaboration for an unoffical SDK years ago, and today, it's still not even 30% finished. So, it will take a while for it to be finalised and stable before effective homebrew apps can be created.
So, unfortunately, some devs will feel an urge to use the offical SDK to create homebrew apps at the moment.
You can blame DemonHades for the leaked SDK. He's stupidly leaked the SDK in one of his private messages via the dump. Not just that, but he's also leaked a newer SDK (1.92) in his chatroom sometime after his website invasion.![]()
well, the major problem was lack of a method to test ps3 binaries. and they are different from linux cell binaries, obviously.
i think the top priority now is to create a ps3link tool (like psplink and ps2link), and then things will slowly pick up.
As it currently stands, any non-official SDKs (which obviously should be avoided as the plague) were for the OtherOS system - hopefully it won't be long before we have something going for the PS3.
Looks like he has updated and added the toolchain btw...
