A friend of mine has an Infectus 2 chip. I have a 60gb CECHA01 on 3.56 firmware. I searched the forum, didn't find much about this, so...
Using the chip, is a downgrade possible/plausible?

NO
Obviously you didn't search hard enough...

You'll note that it says "No downgrade, No jailbreak, no cfw". If the infectus would help you the words "without infectus" would appear there somewhere.
edit: Upon rereading your post it appears that you want to downgrade your PS3 using a chip in your friends PS3? There must be some good weed going around where you are.![]()
...no, my friend HAS an infectus chip. I never said it was in his ps3. Considering that I assumed that the "completely not possible" post only referred to the software side, and I never saw anything that said "INFECTUS WON'T WORK", I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
Ofc, everytime I figure that it couldn't hurt to ask, someone like you shows up and explodes all over the internet.
Nothing personal. There are just way to many people with far flung speculations and they go around starting threads asking if they can downgrade 3.56+ that it gets on my damn nerves seeing them. Especially when there is a sticky at the top of the jailbreak discussion explicitly stating it is not possible. And just because you didn't see anything about infectus not working amounts to nothing. If it actually did work don't you think it would be common knowlege by now and plastered all over this site and many more, and not something you happened to stumble upon while everyone else never noticed?
Sorry I was wrong about your friends infectus not being in his PS3.
Yeah, straightforward, actual solutions do usually end up plastered on the front page of five hundred websites. Most of those have nice, simple tutorials and require all of 3 button presses and some form of plug-and-play USB device instead of decent soldering knowledge, 30+ wires, and a much higher risk of wasting a $400 doorstop of a game system.
So, thanks to this discussion, I learned that 1) it doesn't work, 2) it really, really doesn't work, and 3) no worries.
I'll just sell it and buy a 3.55 one on ebay. Problem solved.
Glad I could steer you in the right direction. I apologize if it seemed to you like I was attacking you personally, that was not my intention. I'm just getting tired of people on 3.56 not grasping that they missed the boat...for now at least.
You CAN downgrade from 3.56+ with an infectus.

Wow. I stand corrected then if I can find more info (not that I don't believe you Math...respect due, despite my disagreements with some of your methods), I'm surprised infectus sales aren't higher and this isn't more widespread news. Even if the installation is complicated I'm a little shocked there aren't people trying to capitalize on this.

@ Math: Without a previous dump? Would it be possible to say, paste ros1 over ros0 and boot? (primitive I know, but I've a brick I'm thinking of trying it on)
