Broken ps3 –
02-07-2012,07:52 PM
Hi all,
I have been looking through the site but I couldn't seem to find the right answer so i thought I would ask.
I have just bought two broken ps3's and need some advice. When I turn them on I get to a screen saying I need to restore the system. One asks for 3.55 and the other 3.50. I then insert a USB stick (formatted fat32) and press start + select. All that happens is the screen says checking and stays there. Neither of the ps3's have a Blu ray of logic board so I'm wondering whether I will need either or both.
I have also tried in the recovery mode to restore/update/rebuild but I get the same.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Also is there a way I could install the system files onto
The hard drive via my pc and then get it working that way.
Thanks for any help
Matt

you can't install system software with missing hardware. You're going to have a hard time doing anything with those systems without the BluRay/logic boards. You won't be able to install from your pc because the PS3's hard drive uses encrypted SPUFS file structure which your pc won't recognize and you won't be able to ftp them to the ps3's without a ftp server. You can't have an ftp server if you can't boot your ps3s. So basically, you're SOL unless you replace the hardware
