hi i got this problem with my BDdrive it doenst read PS3 games but it reads PS2 games and dvd's with no problems is there a fix for or is it the laser?
Just your laser.. If you're going to replace it, I'd suggest looking for a YLOD of the same model and use the working laser from that. If you get a laser off Ebay it's more than likely a refurb and you don't know how long it'll last.
I haven't bothered replacing mine yet, since I don't play all that many games. Pkg files can get some games working when they otherwise need a disk (not many, but some).
there were some ebay merchants that were actual repair shops and they replaced the diodes on "dead" ps3 bluray lasers, but the availability of the diodes is very limited nowadays so they dont do it anymore. however, THEY do exactly what Mistawes suggested - they take broken ps3s and part it out, selling pieces online that people would buy (bluray laser, laser caddy, power supply, etc). a lot of them offer warranties too, upwards of 6months....
Most of the PS3 BD lasers on eBay are new units and work 100%
Ive used them several times and have them in use for over 1 year. I don't know where people get the idea there refurbished, I guess they read it some where and take it as fact spreading the myth. I dont know if the oem or reproductions.
NEW PS3 KEM-410A / KEM-410ACA / KES-410AAA With Deck | eBay
that might be tru for KEM410, but KEM400 are NO LONGER produced. they simply dont make the bluray diodes for that model anymore - which is what i was referencing, not the dual laser KEM410. the OP stated his console can read PS2 games, which means it's a KEM400 laser, not KEM410. therefore, only available refurbished
Maybe so, but you can still buy them new. With a 6 month warranty. They are a bit more pricey though.
ORIGINAL PS3 LASER LENS DECK KEM-400AAA TESTED! NEW!! | eBay
Actually what the dude said was right. Most of them on ebay are refurbished. Whether or not they last a year or longer does not mean they aren't used. It just means they were repaired correctly.
I also think this is just a plug so you can keep posting that link. Sorry 5 posts and already two of them are plugs, doesn't give you much credit.
That made no sense and contained horrible grammar. I get that you were trying to insult him but stating that post count is directly proportional to the amount the amount of dickishness they exert is well... not often correct. Also he wasn't acting like a 'know' it all, he was providing his opinion and belittling yours due to your post count. Which isn't right, but if you where a long standing member of this forum and had to deal with the influx of morons, maybe you'd be a bit prickly towards new comers.
Now the problem you face is gullibility. Just because an ebay merchant says something is new, does NOT mean it is. I mean, who would find out? There would be no proof when you got it. It's a lie for peace of mind. Most likely they ARE used, ripped out of bricks. And that is what people have been saying in the thread, which you seem to be missing. No one, at all, said "Don't buy a used laser off of ebay." They said "Be wary because you don't know how long they'll last." ^^
@slynk
while i agree with you for the most part, for those of us with a single laser ps3 (kem400), we're forced to buy second-hand lasers off ebay (or anywhere else that refurbishes them) because they simply dont make new ones anymore. i've been repairing ps3s for almost 3 years now and can show you pricing graphs i can create about kem400 lasers. at it's lowest, a repaired (new diode) kem400 was purchasable for about $40. prices used to fluctuate up and down depending on availability of the diode (basically how long it took them to manufacture them) as much as $30. since they stopped manufacturing the 5-pin diodes for the kem400, prices are about $70 nowadays, and RISING. the drawback is that NONE of the currently sold kem400s are new or rebuilt - they are ALL refurbs. i did business with a well known east coast (usa) electronics shop that specialized in rebuilding ps3 lasers and they've been feeling the impact of the diode demand for kem400s. they're just simply not making them anymore. as far as atara-noob, eh, there's always going to be some douche-kid that gets butt-hurt when someone pwns them. i just ignore them and go about my way since it's obvious they probably will never be heard from again. or, if they DO hang around, nobody will take their suggestions serious and they get butt-hurt yet again and leave. lol
