So im reposting this here cause my thread got no reply's on the general section...Im basically just looking for some way for me to connect to the internet to upload a copy protected gamesave to PSN. Any ideas are appreciated.

My legit console went capoot on me a few weeks back. I had an electrical surge travel up my ethernet port and it either f'd up the motherboard or my wireless receiver /send unit.

Long story short it was YLOD'ing and I had a repair guy do a reflow, left his house with it still not working, then miraculously a day later it fired back up but no HDMI port and I cannot connect to the internet via wired or wireless connection. It has trouble syncing controllers too but I have been lucky enough to get them to sync with a little extra patience.

So my thing is, it is syncing the controllers still, which from my reading, the wireless sending/receiving unit controls both internet and bluetooth i believe, seems like their is a chance I can get this fixed somehow to connect to the internet. If i can just connect then I can signup for psn plus, and upload my copy protected saves, then be good with it. Any ideas???

Keep in mind ALL I am trying to accomplish here is to retrieve a couple of my pain in the ass copy protected saves off this unit as I have a new slim. Before anybody suggests it too, backup and restore is useless for this task. Ive tried it.
As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

Honestly I would be amazed if the surge went through your Ethernet port and all that got fried was the wireless receiver/sensor.

What happens when you try and back it up through the usb ports?

I think it would be the right time to change your sig now. LOL

    (now being serious)

You cant do like a data restore? But there are NO ALTERNATE ways to my knowledge. What kinda saves were it?

God I really hope it wasn't a game you spent like 30+ hours in but if worse comes to worse I hate to say but you might have to cut your losses OR take it to some repair guy who haves that extensive knowledge of fixing ps3s

Pretty sure it was the ethernet port. I took it to a repair guy and he could tell it their was a bit of a cloudy trail on the motherboard starting at the ethernet and i think it tried to travel out the HDMI cause my HDMI is shot as well on the machine.

The backup utility works fine and so do the USB ports but these are copy protected saves I am dealing with so you cant copy to an external device with these. You can only upload to PSN plus or use the data transfer utility (ps3 to ps3) but that requires a working ethernet port unfortunately.

lol. This is true about the sig. They were copy protected saves and yes unfortunately between tiger woods 12 and 13 I have about a years worth of progress I will be kissing goodbye because of Sony's lack of a decent backup and restore option. Backup and restore will only restore copy protected content to the same ps3, on a new ps3 you will only get the normal saves that you have (non copy protected). I am trying to get the gamesaves over to my new slim.

You are absolutely right about the wifi/ethernet and bluetooth being on the same controller board. I personally had my wifi go out and then I could only sync 1 controller and it took a million times to get it to work. Replacing that board is really easy, and the part only cost me 10-15 bucks on Ebay Just read online instructions first on disassembly.

Dunno what vers. console you got but they look like WIFI WI-FI Card for Sony PlayStation 3 CECHA01/E01 | eBay

But if you dont feel like doing that try copying saves to a thumb drive, and use your controller wired so you dont have to trouble yourself syncing it.

Without it being cfw I dont know of any other options.

I have actually been looking at these all week on ebay and considering trying another one out. Ive removed and reinstalled that piece several times hoping maybe a ribbon cable was loose or something.

So did replacing this actually fix your problem?
