Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this so i apologise in advance but it is my first post so dont flame me too bad lol

So basically i have been searching the internet for the last month or so trying to find out how i'd go about soldering in a 120mm case fan wiring to somewhere on the PS3. And could not find it anywhere so through my own experimentation i have sucessfully completed it myself and thought i'd share.

    What you will need -

    Dremel Multi-tool
    Philips Screw Driver
120mm Pc Case fan + Screws
    Soldering Iron + Solder
    Stanley Knife\Craft Knife
    Insulation Tape\ Electrical Tape

    Okay so here goes...

Disassemble your ps3 until your left with just the underside shell

Cut a hole roughly 100mm Square dead centre in the underside of the shell with your multitool

Match up your case fan with the hole you just cut and mark out the 4 screw holes

Remove the Case fan and drill out the holes until you get a decent sized small hole, DO NOT over drill as the screws will not fit and you'll have to bodge it with some nuts and bolts which is a nightmare

Drill a 5th hole roughly 5cm in from where the power cord connects to the ps3

Cut the 3pin molex from the case fan and attach the fan to the underside of your PS3 shell (BEFORE doing this step you may want to check which way the air blows OUT from your case fan)

Reassemble the heatsinks, power and backing plastics, fan seating and PS3 fan.

Take the PS3 fan power cable and take a small slice of plastic off each of the coloured cables at different point on each of them ONCE ( make sure you can see enough wire inside each of the cables as we'll be soldering to these)

Now solder each of the wires in this order Black to Black - Yellow to Grey - Red to Brown

Once this is done tape up each solder point with Electrical tape so that nothing will touch the solder points and short out

    Reassemble your PS3

    Enjoy

Yeh i'll try post up some pics shortly Sounds like a cool little project you got

So far i've added the underside 120mm fan + 4 Chrome speaker spike feet, next up is cutting the under lid (the one under the playstation lid) and fitting LED's.

    Pheonix81....What a wonderful project, mate.
I dont know how to solder stuff, but I am going to learn.
    Are these tools from ok?
    "Dremel 300 series"
"J&L 60 Watts Soldering Iron, UL listed"

    Got some questions too,
What will the " Philips Screw Driver" be used for??
and won't the electrical tape melt down if PS3 reaches high temps in Summer?
    Thanks alot.

Cheers i'm glad you like it, i'd not seen a tutorial for this anywhere so i feel like its a great little achievement.

As for your soldering skills, if your not too keen on making a mess of your ps3 try out on a few bits of scrap wire first so you can get used to it. Much better ruining some scrap than turning your ps3 into scrap lol.

And yeh the tools you have are fine. You'll need the Phillips screw driver or a "starry" as there commonly known round here to attach the 120mm fan to the case with the screws provided with the 120mm fan you bought.

And no the electrical tape will be fine in there, plenty of ventilation where it will be situated

Let me know how you get on, i'd like to see how people have adapted my mod
