For those asking about 3.56 CFW, just want to make this thread explaining WHY its pointless.

No Game requires 3.56, until we see a game requiring 3.56 (and that can't be easily hacked for 3.41/3.55…there is no point)

PSN works on 3.55 - Yes, you read this right, you can still access PSN on 3.55. Its very easy. Look at these threads:

    http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/%5B...0-1-1-a-80594/

    and

    http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/%5B...e-no-vm-80565/

…get the two files on the first forum, get Charles from the 2nd forum…follow the directions that the "Guide" button gives you on the PS3DNS Bypass.exe file, and you're online…it's VERY easy…I was online in 10 minutes!

There are no new features in 3.56 at all…It was only put out to block the PSN access on 3.55 and to stop the CFW. You wouldn't ever know the difference if you didn't look at the version number.
    As of 1/26/2011:

    3.60 Now Live!

    PS3 80GB Non-BC >> Waninkoko 3.55 >> Kmeaw 3.55>> Sold!
Sure-fire way to prevent PSN Bans: Update to OFW!

So what do you do when Sony starts selling consoles with 3.56+ installed (which is goint to happen at some point in the future)

I think its good that there is some development going on, even if its not necessary right now

I think its going to take some time for Sony to sell 3.56 consoles.By then we may have the 3.56 cfw.BTW the new trick to get on PSN supports both psn store and online gaming?

even if a 3.56 "cfw" comes out there will be little to absolutely no chance it will work on 3.56 factory or 3.56 updated consoles anyway. the private keys from previous versions (which are the ones we have) simply will not load on 3.56 anymore.

seriously. 3.56 consoles are as good as the pre-jailbreak era, it is a secure firmware until someone finds a new exploit.

however the possiblitiy is completely there for a 3.56 cfw for all pre 3.56 consoles. its just not needed so why make it?

As others stated, those consoles won't update. 3.56 included new encryption/signatures that we can't create ourselves. We can decrypt and verify a signature, because we know the public keys, but we can't create a PUP that a console already flashed with 3.56 will accept.

Those consoles may be patchable using a NAND or NOR flasher... it may be possible, given the Waninkoko Brick solution, which flashes lv2kernel.self over a corrupted version, but there simply is no way, technically, to use the 3.56 firmware's recovery mode or system update to flash a custom firmware because we cannot sign/encrypt the files it will be looking at.

I agree, somewhat, there is no reason for a 3.56 CFW, but it would be nice to at least see a proof-of-concept; a version with the loaders patched to 3.55 keysets, revocation lists rolled back, and the new firmware protection removed. This will be a challenging task, and I'm not sure who would be up to it, but it won't come from somebody who's never done anything significant in the scene.
Working hard on UberCFW, incorporating NTFS, sub-free NetFlix and Blockbuster, PSN cheat system with built-in swearbot and MAC-spoofing, Adding MKV, RAM and BIK movie support, and Xbox360 emu*.

*not really. Get a life, newbs...

I completely disagree... what happens when we get 3.57 or 3.6 firmware released? They will still have the security methods of 3.56 implemented. They still need to be bypassed. There is no reason to procrastinate hacking 3.56 just because we don't gain anything with the firmware. If we can't hack 3.56, future firmware releases in which we WANT them to be hacked will be that much harder.

Plus, we have to hack the pups incrementally. 3.57 firmware will require 3.56 keys which we don't have. And 3.58 will require 3.57 keys. Etc etc.

There are a lot of good reasons to hack 3.56. :P

You say PSN works but routing your internet connection through a PC is not acceptable for actually playing games such as COD or any other FPS, there is too much extra latency. So there is a very good reason for cfw 3.56

I played Black Ops for hours and did not experience any latency using the PSN hack.

Also if 3.56 is understood now, it will be much easier to do a cfw with a newer fw with added features in the future
