3.55 "protections" that 3.41v2 doesnt have?
3.55 "protections" that 3.41v2 doesnt have? –
Hello, what are the protections implemented by Sony between OFW 3.41v2 and 3.55?
Are those circunventable?
Asking because Jaicrab is developing awsome 3.41v2 CFW, and my slim cant downgrade below 3.50
A port would be possible?

More and more people are going to have that issue. I'm also stuck with a PS3 Slim that can't be downgraded below 3.50. I want 3.41 to have ps3load and ethdebug for more sane approach to develop and test apps on my ps3.
Although I've actually ordered a second ps3 now which should arrive this week. :P
Still I hear new Slims are shipped with 3.56 and AFAIK all those new ones can only be downgraded to 3.50. (And since they're on 3.56 you can't even do that.)
Price for used PS3's on <3.56 are going to go up!
I believe one of the protections is the lack of 3rd party controller support; that is the only one I am aware of.
Oh, and Level 2 has some syscall patches.
for one the usb exploit is patched. other than that, nothing really.

There are numerous changes from 3.41 to 3.42 to 3.50 to 3.55. 3.42 blocked the original dongle exploit. To simplify it and avoid the technical aspects for this discussion, firmware 3.50 and 3.55 added some protections and checks in lv2, and to a lesser extent, lv1, that were a hindrance in creating a custom firmware when keys were released. Waninkoko first dangerous, short-sighted custom firmware failed to address these concerns on all ps3s, not just the original 256mb NAND models that were bricked. Wutangrza, and later Kmeaw custom firmware got around these protections. It is easier to make a custom firmware for 3.41 than it is for 3.55. I use the term "easier" loosely, because it just saves some of the work needed because an offset on 3.41 is different than 3.55.
Some of the third party applications for original Everquest (macroquest), along with FFXI and World of Warcraft, had to be updated with every patch to find the new offsets and correct them. I found it very easy to do this for Macroquest, but it may just because I haven't dove very deep into the ps3. A lot of the features of custom firmware are being stripped from the cobra dongle, which was based on 3.41 mainly so the Cobra team could sell a dongle. It is quicker and easier for Jaicrab's team to reverse the dongle, and add it to a 3.41 base firmware, than it would be to reverse the dongle, than port everything to 3.55 base firmware. It looks like they are going to release the 3.41 firmware, than continue working on the firmware for an eventual release on 3.55 (or later). Less relevant to this discussion, but the various "keys" everyone talks about were changed between 3.41 and 3.55, twice if I remember right. Someone else can chime in on exactly how many times.
I tried to "dumb" down the conversation a bit to make it easier to understand for people not familiar with these kind of things. If you want a more precise, more technical discussion, that can be added too, because it would be more correct.
Please add a more precise description
