[Suggestion] File backup / restore app (Xreg/act.dat/dev_flash3)
[Suggestion] File backup / restore app (Xreg/act.dat/dev_flash3) –

This is an idea for a simple app that would be useful for backing up and restoring important files before and after downgrading FW and/or replacing HDD.
After recently downgrading I lost all my account details, PSN activations, and BD playback. Fortunately I had backups of my Xregistry.sys, which restored my account details. I also had backups of my act.dat files which temporarily restores PSN activations. These need to be restored after every boot though, which is a hassle especially when you have several accounts. Unfortunately I don't have a backup of dev_flash3, which is apparently required for BD playback.
These are the important folders that should be backed up, if you lose these files you can have major problems. The app would just need a simple "Backup Files" option, and could backup the files to internal HDD for Fat PS3s which don't get reformatted on downgrade, or to external HDD for Slim PS3s and internal HDD replacements.
/dev_hdd0/home (act.dat)
/dev_flash2 - (Xreg)
/dev_flash3 - (BD files)
After downgrading FW/replacing HDD if any of these files have been lost then the app can be used to restore them from the backups it created prior to downgrade/HDD replacement. /dev_flash2 and dev_flash3 should only need to be restored once, but /dev_hdd0/home will need to be restored after every boot. It should be fairly painless to reactivate PSN DLC with such an app rather than FTPing them across everytime.
Basically this simple app would be something like this;
Reactivate PSN (restores backup of /dev_hdd0/home)
Restore Accounts (restores backup of /dev_flash2)
Restore BD Playback (restores backup of /dev_flash3)
Restore All
Backup Files to Internal HDD
Backup Files to External HDD
I think this would be quite a useful app, and it should be fairly simple to create. Unfortunately not simple enough for me, so hopefully someone else can pick this idea up.

I am going to work on this app just for people like you. It should be done within a few weeks. (I am very busy, may be a few days may be a few weeks)
