That is more likely from the quality of CD you're using. Some of those (dare I say the word?) PRINCO fabbed CD-R's can get off balance or make a poor burn and it reaks havoc on your hardware. About the only thing that might help is to make sure you burn them at 1X, and make sure everything is burned in the mode 2 format.
Good Luck!

In all reality "YES" If you have a dvd Player just use that if the ps2 is the only source for playing media files then i guess you have no choice, or you can do what many other people are doing, getting an xbox, it will play any Media file , vcd, svcd, ogg vorbis, mgeg1, mpeg 2, divx, vob, you name the media file it will play it!
that way you dont waste the delicate ps2 laser!
If you're willing to fork out the cash for the Xbox....you'd be better off investing in the DVD-Burner. Office Depot marked the Cendyne/re-badged Pioneer A05's down to $150 recently--not sure if it was a local decision, or corporate, but you can find similar (if not better) deals on-line. Then you could just make DVD backups that play like the originals......and wouldn't have to go through the pain of ripping/re-encodong to the lower quality alternitives that would require the PS2Reality or the XBox in the first place.
If the issue is playing VCD/SVCD type files, you could also nab an APEX DVD Player just about anywhere for well under $100 that would handle these files also. You can get info on the features of any prospective DVD Player here--very useful info:
