I was wondering, can ps2 dvd-rips wear out the laser faster than the full version? if it was burned on to a branded name cdr, then would it wear the laser out? thank you.

since stuff is ripped out and relinked the laser has to work alot more so i could imagine that it wears out faster with rips
but dont quote me on that ^^

Arrrrr, it is a known fact that DVDrips are a bit harder on yer laser. It be a double whammy too, since yer ps2 already be working a bit harder cuz it be readin' off a yon CDr, but now add in the fact that yer game be a DVDrip and yer increasing the amount of work even more...and a bad rip *cough* def jam vendetta *cough* will nuke yer laser faster than you can get repair parts shipped to ye.

For a start the laser used for reading cd's is different from the one used for dvd's ands so are the detectors.

the Laser won't wear out on a rip the thing that may wear out is the motor assy as it is going back and forth a bit as previously stated.

I have yet to see one of these wear out but i am no pro-modder or repairerer.

I am still using the same ver5 for dvd-r and cd-r that i used for heaps of cd rips and no worries after 18 months.

I think rufnut has it covered, only point to add is poor quality media (the type that are nearly transparent) and scratched media that put strain on the laser.

I have original cd based ps2 games that clunk and clank just like a dvd rip.
When you think that a dvd contians about 6 times as much information than a cd the laser sled moves a lot faster and fequent with a cd than a dvd.
