Alchohol 120% burning CDRs HELP please!
Alchohol 120% burning CDRs HELP please! –

Hello all
Ive been reading like mad through these forums. I love it. There is a wealth of knowledge here. I have a couple of questions. I currently have a Pioneer A05 with hacked 1.30 firmware. I also have a LiteOn LTD-163 for ripping discs to HD. Now this is my problem. I also have a Mitsumi 4808TE 16x48X CDRW. I have burned like 1000 discs with this sucker, but took it out to make room for my new Pioneer and LiteOn. Should I put the Mitsumi back in to backup the 40+ .bin backups i have? Or should I just use Nero and burn the bin images with my A05. See, i started out burning my cdr backups at 16X (before finding out about this forum). Ill probably have to scrap those discs, no prob. I am smart enough to not delete stuff untill it has been fully tested. I have a DMS3 on its way via UPS right now, so havent tested them. I should not be burning the CDR backups faster than about 2x right? (from .bin and .cue) Can the A05 properly write CDR backups at 2X with Nero? I can just buy a y-splitter for my power and put my Mitsumi back in (and still burn at 2x to be safe) Just looking for some good advice, opinions, experiences, etcc.... Under either condition, what brand of CDR should I use to burn the images. Right now, i have a 100 spindle of Memorex CDRs. These are my all purpose discs. I did not buy them for ps2 games, and most cdrs are soo cheap, I dont mind buying the most expensive ones, as long as they do the job.

Mitsumi CDRW (4808TE) - not currently in my computer

Arrrrrrrrr, 2x-4x be yer sweet spot fer burnin' games so it is. I woulds just a leave what ye got in yer system now and burn using them. May I also suggest getting the program Alcohol 120%, it can burn images created by CDRwin, Nero, CloneCD, and a few others...and it has a built in, pre-defined PS2 setting fer burning! Ye can't beat that!

I do have Alcohol 120% and I love it. If i am backing up, say downloaded PS2 sampler discs and they are all good and rarred up, Why do I have to use the Customize tab for Playstation2? Arent most of these all ready to go. If say they are .bin and.cue for tony hawk 4, would i still use the Playstation 2 tab in Alcohol?? Or just burn like any other .bin.?? What exactly is the Playstation 2 tab for in the customize pulldown? To make a long story short, if people can use Nero to burn the same images, then why do i select PS2 as a template in Alcohol if the game has allready "taken care of"/?? What does the PS2 setting in Alchohol do? The other part of my question was dealing with cdr media. Is there a preferred cdr brand that is good for burning the PS2 images as the Pioneer A05 has with Ritek and Verbatim Media?? Or will any Maxell do the trick as long as i burn em at a slow rate. Im just a little confused about the PS2 template in Alcohol. Isnt that fo the PS2 copywrite protection. These games arent allready fixed. Im also confused about all this "patching". What kind of games need to be patched, and any info given on this subject would greatly be appreciated.

use verbatim datalifeplus. with the azo blue bottoms. they burn at 16x max. they now only come in the colered multipacks now. fuji are good too but u gotta get the right ones from fuji as some of the fujis suck look for the ones with the dark blue bottoms.
the newer verbs arent as good but they burn at faster speeds. stay away from those valuelifeplus, there crap.
BTW all cdrs will work just crapy media like princo will take its toll on your unit ecpecially if your using ver 1-3 ps2

That PS2 tab in Alcohol 120% does nothing. I tested it out. I burned an image that was not in the correct PS2 format, and it didn't correct it. The PS2 didn't boot it. They probably put it there so their software appeals to the public.

Thanks Tec9 and poluga. Tech9: I dont think that they make Verbatim DataLife + CDRs, all I have been able to find is the Verbatim DataLife + DVD-r's. And when you mention the ValueLife cdrs sucking, well, that is all that I can find. Can you point me in the direction of a reputable American company who sales this brand.? I did me best , mate.
Poluga: I didnt think that the PS2 tab in alcohol did much either. Because I have upgraded my program, and still get errors when i use the ps2 tab. LOL. So, I should just use NERO to burn all of my Bin images.? Sorry to ask soo many questions. But for you out there. DO NOT BUY YOUR MOD CHIP FROM MOD-CHIP.COM. I paid for 3-6 day shipping and that was 15 days ago. The weirdest thing is, the do still email me back when i rant and rave at them, they just blame it on the mail system. I say "mail system", I freakin paid for UPS. thats not the "mail system" Anyway, i ordered a DMS3 from them and still have yet to receive it, in the meantime my 200 GB harddrives are full to the brim. I need to learn how to properly burn some of these hoes, so i can free up some room. To all the people who says that the mod-chip site isnt down......WRONG. IT is down until June 30th for VACATION. How many vacation do you Euros get each year. My gawd!

Tec9, thanks again....the Verbatim DataLifePlus CDR are EXCELLENT for burning ps2 cdr backups. Just for anyones knowledge, dont go crazy looking specifically for the azo blue (mitsubishi) technology Verbatims. I found out that ALL Verbatim DataLif Plus CDRS above the 32X write speed have the super azo technology (blue dye) integrated. So no need for searching via this anymore. All 32X+ Verbatims are SuperAzo ready. Thanks for the advice. Im 14 for 14 with these puppies. Go buy some today.

If you already have 100 Memorex CD-R's use em. I have been using Memorex for burning my games to CD and it works fine. Only problem I had was with a corrupted .bin file. Once you receive your chip and get it in you'll probably find that you do more backups with your DVD burner. All the games that I really enjoy are DVD. There are only one or two CD games that I ever put in the console anymore.

I always use Platinum CDs. I even burnt some games at 40x speed, and they work just fine.

Ive allready bought the Verbatim DataLife Plus 100 Spindle. Nice deal, i got through googlegear.com. I think i paid around 35 total with shipping on it. They work great, have the azo blue layer in them for good longevity and I will propbably use these for the rest of my PS2 CDR backups (which is coming to a close). Thanks to everyone who has responded here, as your advice has been greatly appreciated. Feel free to continue discussion on CDRs that you feel have given you a good "go-round" and tell us why you think that they are one of the best PS2 CDRs to back up with. Much love, and remember that phreedom is never phree.
