What is the best backup software?
What is the best backup software? –
12-11-2004,10:53 AM
I am new to all this and am having no success with backups. I have copied several of my ps2 dvd games with DVD Decrypter software. They copy with no problems on my HP with XP home edition, burned on Memorex +R at 2X speed. I have installed a PNP plug and play mod chip and use the swap magic discs. Original games boot up great, but the backups will not boot. I get the red outline on the screen when I try to play them. My ? is, is DVD Decrypter a reliable software to use for backups in +R format, or should I be using a different software? What is the best software to download?
Thanks for your help.

if you looked around you would realize +R plays on almost NO ps2's you should not use them AND some games need fixes to play with swap magic discs

Hi exzapel,
If you read the first sticky in this forum DVD+R vs. DVD-R, it reads that many people have good success with DVD+R. The PNP mod chip I purchased stated it would work with either +R or -R. Also the games I am backing up show no fixes. I am using a ps2 V7 model. That is why I questioned the quality of the DVD Decrypter software for rip and burn. If anyone knows if this is a good software, please let me know.

You're making an .iso with DVD Decrypter, right? On a V7, +R should work fine. Once the .iso is made with DVD Decrypter, I've simply always burned with Nero, and I've never had a problem. Some people use DVD Decrypter to burn with as well, and swear up and down by it, and it's very reliable. So to answer your question, yes, DVD Decrypter is very reliable as software.

Easiest one to use and extremely reliable... Alcohol 120%
- Hardvlade

i agree although with hardvlade alcohol is probably the best to burn with plus it has the virtual drive which i like too
. ripping wise id use dvd decrypter since its the only one that i know that can rip to iso form directly. as for nero, ive had problems so i try to steer clear when dealing with burning ps2 games.

i have a question i use alcohol 120% to make my backups but on some games it will not let me make backups. what is the deal with that?

alcohol doesnt rip to iso which can be a problem putting on hdd thats why i stick with dvd decrypter for ripping. i think the ccd and mds are the only 2 formats you can rip with for alcohol.

Recordnow Max is also an excellent choice anyway. Stable, small, fast and does anything you just wish.

I'm completely new to the ps2 scene, but very familiar with the xbox scene and mod chips, and i've read this thread and was wondering if DVD Decryptor was the only program that i need other than nero to create a nice working back up of my game. I only have one seeing as how i just got a ps2. If using DVD Decryptor to create the iso isn't the way to go, is there any kind of specific ps2 iso creator?
