I was wondering how bad backups wear the slim-line ps2 lens out. If I was burning with taiyo yudens at 2X and not playing psx or movies on it, would it be any different than playing a retail ps2 game? I have a feeling it doesn't but I'm just interested to hear people's opinions on this.

Using backup media wears your lazer out faster than playing pressed disks. There's no way to avoid this. That being said, there are steps you can take to prolong your lazer's life, and it sounds like you're doing most of them.

If you're really concerned you might want to invest in a hard drive and an HD Connect to run games off of the HD, thus easing load on your laser.

iv got a v12 ps2 (modded) and iv used all the incorect media, and used it for long period of time without breaks and it still has not broken.

I recomend just not useing ur laser to backup games to the hdd.
    This is the bigest killer.

    Hope this helps
