I'm using Memorex DVD-Rs (CMC MAG. AM3) and I was just wondering how bad the wear on the laser is. I know it won't/shouldn't be anything instantaneous, but it's not going to give out on me if I play it constantly anytime soon is it?

Don't know if it'd be needed for an answer but I'm using a 750001 (NTSC U/C).

Slim models of the ps2 usually having less of a lifetime of a laser. To help your laser out burn at half of the burn speed. The faster you burn the less work your laser has to do to read it. Burn at half so you get all the data on there.

I burned it at 2x, should I make a new one at a higher speed? I thought I had read that 2x was the most reliable speed for DVD-r's.

I would say, use other DVDs. ^^
Memorex do harm your laser a lot faster/more, than Verbatims.

I would burn them with IMG-Burn and the "AWS-Speed"-Setting on.
Your burner then should use the optimal write-speed for your inserted disc.
If you want to set your speed manually, I (if I were you) would use half of the discs max. burn/write-speed.

What you read about the slow burn/write-speed is a myth out of the CD-R-Times and the beginning of DVD+/-R-Times (where no faster media, than 4x were available).

I'll re-burn the game on the AWS setting. All I have are Memorex, and I don't plan on burning any other games anytime soon so there really isn't any reason to buy Verbatim.

    Thanks both of you,
    ~DBC~

[EDIT] I know that there probably isn't an exact math for it, but is there alot to fear from playing a game for 90 hours on a Memorex?

i would go with some taiyo yuden's ps2's love these discs and they are fairly cheap...

as for wear there's no real evidence that a backed up burned game runs the laser any harder then a pressed copy.

Thanks dangwoot. I won't worry about my laser while I play then, until/unless i start to see signs of the laser giving out.

    Thanks for the help everyone,
    ~DBC~
