Want A Dvd Burner And Help

Hi everyone I maybe in the wrong place to post this but here goes. I'm a newbie to all this cd-r,cd-rw,dvd-r,and dvd-rw. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me here, please explain the difference's and which is better. Also could anyone recommend the best burner that will do all the following described with a good price tag
