    I heard from other forums that the Verbatim Datalife DVD-Rs bought before OCtober 30, 2002 are/could be defective. Anyone heard this? I checked out their website and says nothing about it. Wonder what they replace, the whole pack that you bought or the unused media.? Anyone knows please share.

    There's some info about it floating around some other forums, as you say.

    The specifics are:

    * If you're using a Sony DRU-500A (that's the new ± drive)
    and
    * If you're using Verbatim 2x DVD-R media
    and
    * If the 2x media was produced at the Singapore facility between May and August 2002.

    There's a blurb about it here (dvdwriters.co.uk) about halfway down the page.

    The important part is:

    Verbatim will replace any non-compatible media at no cost to you. In the US and Canada please contact Verbatim technical support preferable by e-mail to techsupport@verbatim.com or by calling 1-800-538-8589 between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm EST. We will quickly issue a return authorization number and send you replacement product.
    Sounds like they're either replacing the stuff you used that's incompatible, or the whole pack - it's not limited to unused media.

    HTH.

    Unless you live next to me and got it at the same place your word means nothing.

    Actually, it means that there's some confirmation that the problem is, as Verbatim said, not universal. Doesn't help you any, but it gives a broader perspective on the situation.
