V9 Ps2 Media Boot Problems!
I have a v9 PS2 modded with the DMS3 and a Sony DRU-500a DVD burner (both with the latest firmware updates). I have been experimenting with making DVD game backups and have run across a problem.
I make an image of the DVD onto my hard drive using RecordNow MAX, everything comes out successful, then I burn the image onto a TDK DVD-R silver top disc at 2x, the backup will play on my PS2, but it will not boot, (I receive the PS2 red screen telling me to insert a PS2 formatted disc), it only works if I wait for the PS2 browser screen to come up and then put the disc in. (I also receive the PS2 red screen with this method but only maybe 1 out of 5 times). When I burn the exact same image onto a Sony DVD+RW disc at 2.4x, it will boot successfully and play perfectly just like the original, no problems. I have tried burning the TDK discs at 1x and have used other software like Nero, the same results every time.
The reason why I just don?t use Sony DVD+RWs instead of the TDK DVD-Rs for backups are because I have read that DVD+RWs overstresses the PS2?s laser from the discs low reflectivity, and the DVD+RWs simply cost too much. From what I have been able to read and understand is that DVD-Rs are the best to use for backups because of their high reflectivity which equals less stress on the PS2?s laser, and they are cheaper. I can only guess that I?m doing something wrong when burning, but it seems strange that the DVD+RWs work perfectly and the DVD-Rs have problems using the same backup images. Is there something else I should be trying to do, or should I try another brand of DVD-R or maybe even some DVD+R?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
BTW: The TDK DVD-R I have are both recommended as good media for PS2 Backups and to work on my DVD Burner.
