so do i have the option to burn at 1x or 2x or does it not matter
From what I've read they say burn at 2x(you can burn at 1x) but as to why people are only guessing. I've read what balto says about it -he was repsonding to a guy that thought 1x should be better than 2x-and to be honest I can't see how 2x can be better than 1x just really doesn't make sense. I believe the problem is not the speed of the burn-if 1x fails and 2x doesn't-but the burner, the software, the ps2 version, those are the things I think that we should focus on but what do I know I'm just a jackass.

It comes down to this:
2x certified media burns better and boots and loads better with less skipping and other problems when burned at 2x rather than 1x. I've tested this to be a fact in a v1-0D with a Magic 2, a v4-1A with an original Messiah, and a v7 with a Messiah 2 Pro.
Now, if you're using marginal media like Ritek, Princo, etc. which are 1x certified at a bare minimum, then yes, burning at 1x is the way to go, as that media can't handle a 2x burn without incurring errors anyway.
Media like TDK, Verbatim, Pioneer, Apple, Maxell, Imation, and the 2x certified Meritlines have all experienced some sort of problem when burned at 1x as opposed to 2x on each of the machines I mentioned above. I don't know why, but they just do. Could be the dye formulation in conjunction with too much laser heat during the slower 1x burn.
Therefore, my recommendation has been if you use known certified 2x media, burn it at 2x. If you use the cheap no-name stuff, stick to 1x out of safety's sake.
As always, YMMV...![]()
Well, I have the certified 2x Meritline Silver-tops...I have burnt maybe 6-7 ps2 games and a few movies at 1x. No probs yet, but maybe I should begin burning at 2x.
Why? if it ain't broke don't fix it.
It would be nice if other people burned 2x media at 1x and compared the two besides balto.

Wow if Verbatims where only 17 dollers a 50 pack spindle man i cant find the cheep ones for that, hell i cant find a cheep 25 spindle for 17 dollers close but still. Verbatims i see about 30 bucks for 10 pack and the cheep stuff cost me 30 dollers for 30 of them plus dvd cases.
Really? Honest-to-God Verbatims and not some unbranded or factory reject?Originally posted by thetieger
