a patch is a game fix that converts pal games into a nstc. you can get the tools you need also guides on how to use the patch converters here. http://forums.psxforum.com/viewforum.php?f=34

Hey apple, try reburning it, I have tried the transformers pal game on different ps2's that I have modded in the past, and am pretty sure that I tried my copy on yours, if it is the infinity chip in the one you are talking about. Try burning it with Nero or something, could also have made a bad image of the file or something.

Patching the game is not neccesary.

    Good luck.

What they mean by "patch it" is that if you are in an NTSC region (with an NTSC TV) then PAL games will not display property because of different TV standards. You'll need to find a PAL(<-)->NTSC game convertor or a specific patch for the game, then burn it patched and voila! play!
ALLERGY ALERT: The above post may be nuts.

    Consoles:

    Currently:
    *N64, GBA, both un-modded.

    Passed away:
    *NTSC U/C PS2 v4 w/No Solder v4 (SOLD, DRE... Laser Died )
*NTSC U/C PS with Plugmod (SOLD to pay for above )

Is the whole screen rolling or just some part keeps flashing somewhere?

If the whole screen is rolling, then you might need to patch it. I can't explain it, but I have one of the cheapest tv's available, and it will play all pal games with no trouble, don't ask me how, but it does.

My PAL copy of Transformers (taken from a retail Disc) has a 50/60Hz selector as standard (it asks you to choose at some point during the loading process). Doesn't that work?

the difference between pal and NTSC is not just the refresh rate (eg. 50/60hz) but also the number of lines (the resolution) and also the frequency of the color carrier.
Pal tv's will usually display NTSC content in B&W, but NTSC tv's that have to display PAL usually roll. the 50/60 hz switch does not fix this, you should path the game, either with the ADR patcher, or a patch that was created specific for this game, usually found on sites such as megagames, or gamecopyworld
