i've got an NEC 2510A with 2.17 firmware. i used DVD Decrypter and made sure the booktype was set to DVD-ROM (and checking the burned disk in DVD decrypter confirms that it was burned as DVD-ROM) the media is Datasafe DVD+R DL
i've just updated my drives firmware to the latest (2.18), but don't know if that will make any difference. only got 1 DVD+R DL left so don't want to try again until i've got a good idea of what the problem is.
i would have thought that the modchip would not be an issue - my PS2 is physically capable of reading dual layer disks, even burned ones, if i'd copied a movie onto this disk it would have worked, so why is putting a game onto it any different? perhaps my problem is a bad dvd drive that doesn't like this media?
Or perhaps this patch isn't working as well as they thought it would.
Sounds correct. As those who checked this with an Infinity and DeMeS which both support the GT4, well then why patching that at all ??? Others report that the game does not work, so then what does this patch actually do ? Seems nothing except some extra coasters...

People need to get it through their heads that while Ritek produces some excellent single layer discs, that their D/L discs leave something greatly to be desired. Memorex, Datasafe, Traxdata, Ritek/Ridata and several other all use the Ritek D/L dye. It should also be noted that Datasafe, Tuffdisc, Datawrite, Ridisc, Rivision, Bulqpaq and White Label are all owned and distributed by the crooks at E-net. E-net is well known for buying up B Grade and C Grade discs and doing overprints, then slapping "Grade A" or "Grade AAA" media on them. The majority of the discs they are getting are rejects from Ritek or CMC Magnetics. That is the other problem, there are absolutely no loyalties to manufacturers. They switch out more than any other brands that I know of. What they do is release a batch or two of media that is pretty decent and then once they have baited people they switch over to lower grades or different manufacturers. I guess E-net could've avoided this whole mess by owning up and saying that they were selling overprints or budget media instead of claiming that their discs are nothing but the best quality.

I mean working backups worked on DeMeS3, DeMeS4, Infinity and O2. (O2, Infinity and DeMeS4 have their own internal on-the-fly patchers, that work as they work (seems the Infinity is far from perfect, O2's is the best)) so the only chip that this patch is useful for is the DeMeS3. I am just guessing, still cannot try the patch, as I do not have any DL media here, and, oh, my bad I have no original GT4. But would be great to test the patched iso with Duo2 and with some older Matrix stuffs. Could anyone confirm that any stuff from release groups (for example the Strike release) (patched with this patch) works or just an iso made from the original works ?
To my knowledge this patch was designed to work with the other chips. It is possible that this only works with the Xodus made chips but I would be curious to know what would happen if people updated the firmware for their burners and used Verbatim media? Most of the people I see having problems are the ones using Ritek dye D/L DVD+R. The reviews seem to be about 50-50 with them and keep in mind that most of these people aren't backing up stuff for videogame consoles, which are extra picky with what they read. Anyways, I used DVDinfopro to verify that the 109 does indeed auto-set the booktype to DVD-ROM on D/L DVD+R discs with V1.40 firmware.
hi, i have a ps2 with ripper3 gold chipped and patched gt4 and it works, also kessen 3 works it starts with toxic logo instead off ps2 logo works great now on ridisc and platium dvd+r dl burnt with latest dvd decrypter on a nec 3500 , but i can't patch "Xenosaga_Episode_I_USA_PS2DVD9-Morningwood" the program says then "Error: Not a dual layer disk" but the iso is 8,468,299,776 long???? anyone tried the same game...
update "Metal_Gear_Solid_2_Substance_USA_PS2DVD9-MorningWood " is not working patched or unpatched, hangs at first startup logo.
God_of_War_USA_PS2DVD9-USA Works with patch but laser makes clicking noise while playing the game , fmv are good but also clicking noise tested with ps2 v10

Maybe if you tried backing up the original discs instead of D/L images.
These 2 games doesnt work for me

Ok..i have a V7 PS2 with DMS3 and latest flash upgrade...this patcher is supposed to work with any modchip that support DVD9 games (original and/or backups) and im afraid that chips that came out before the DMS3 are not dvd9 compatibles, same goes with swap magic disc (unless u can refresh the TOC size somehow for DVD9 games)..anyway..i can confirm that GoW and Kessen 3 NTSC both dvd9 that i got from original discs work fine after patched. (if u notice after the patching process, both games have the IOPRP300.IMG patched)..this is a point why its work..i dunno about GT4 because i have the original, but i guess it uses the same file...for other games i had no success..Champions of Norrath and MGS2 Subst. go to black screen after the Toxic logo..also both games have diff. files patched (DNAS280.IMG for CoH and IOPRP250.IMG for MGS wich is strange, because DNASxxx.IMG is used for online, not for dvd9 checks) i didnt tested other games, like Xenosaga 1 or The Guy Game..if they use IOPRP300.IMG for patching then it should work..also for DMS users..if your backups dont boot at the first try even with good media, just use the fast boot feature (Hold Select at startup) ..it bypass the logo and goes directly to the game..works fine everytime..in case u get sometimes the red screen as me (but not because of the booktype, my burner change that while burning to DVD-ROM)
Hope this help and sorry for this long message
