Too Many Coasters
Too Many Coasters –
ok i've been having bad luck backing up my final fantasy x-2.
I have used dvd decryptor read at a slow speed 2x and burnt at 2x, get freezing at the beginning of the game about three minutes in, so i thought i burnt it wrong tried using blindwrite to burn the same .iso that i made using dvddecryptor and it FROZE at the SAME EXACT SPOT as where it froze when i burnt it with dvddecryptor. I came to the conclusion is that it is not my burning that seems to be the problem since both methods of burning froze at the same points from the same image that i extracted from dvddecryptor. My problem seems to be not properly extracting the image from the dvd (ffx-2). Now i tried using alcohol 120% to extract the image i CANNOT set the read speed in alcohol when i go to copy wizard in alcohol 120% it doesn't give me the options for datatype etc.. the only way i can set the read speed is if my orinal dvd game(ff-x2) is not in the dvd drive, then i can can choose my data type and read speed, but once I insert my dvd(ffx-2) in it automatically changes so that i can't choose it the only options i get is skip read errors and copy current disc on the fly when i click next i choose my folder to save the image in then click next i can choose my write speed then click next and it begins its process but the read speed goes from 2.0x to 5.5x and so on within minutes of reading. How can I choose the playstation 2 setting in Alcohol because when i insert the dvd(ffx-2) i don't get the option of choosing datatype anymore and I noticed if I were to use datatype the option for playstation 2 has a chaeckmark in read sub-channel Data from current disc. But when i put my dvd(ffx-2) in all those options are lost and it does it own thing. I've burnt about 35+ coasters already and am asking the experts for help. tried using record now max but no luck since my lg 4081b is not recognized in it no virtual driver support for recordnowmax.
Please guys what do i need to do in order to get a proper read image from my dvdoriginal(ff-x2), tried dvd decryptor several times from slow read speeds to medium to fast and all went burnt froze at some point in the game. My modchip is the new matrix Infinity and had no problems with other backup games. It must be my dumping of the image not a true proper dump any insight would be much appreciated.

You gotta tell us what media you're using. That's probably the problem. If I remember, FFX-2 is a pretty big game. Bigger they are the harder it'll be for the PS2 to read if you use a cheap media.
Try cleaning the laser with the lens cleaner. That might help.
Try defragmenting your HD if none of the above works. It's possible that your HD is too fragmented to properly make an image.
My media that i am using is 4..38gig ritek i think dvd-r and yes i have defragmented my cpu several times i have a 160 gig hard drive with 37.8 gigs left fragmented it many times before i wrote to the media, could that be the problem? i will run nero dvd speed to find out 100%

Be sure to clean your PS2 laser and see if that makes a difference. My friend tried Lifeline on his PS2 and the game wouldn't boot after the instruction. It always froze on during the opening movie. I brought him the lens cleaner and after cleaning few times with that thing, the game worked perfectly on his PS2. It's very possible that you have a dirty laser.
If not then get one of the quality dvd-rw (like Pioneer) and burn a game on that. It's possible that your PS2 didn't like the disk the game is burnt on. Try those two things and see if you still have a problem.

Some people had issue with Memorex DVD-R. I suggest you buy a Ritek or something similar to that and try the same game out again. Chances are it'll work. I'm sure you'll say that "other games have worked on this media" or something close to that but just because some games worked on a particular media doesn't mean all games will. Especially one as big as FFX-2.
Alright i will try using ritek will go buy some and post results, in the mean time after i get the ritek media any advice on my alcohol 120% issue as to why i can't choose settings?
you don't need to choose the settings.......
i've burnt dozens of discs with it and all work perfectly fine
What brand of dvds you using to backup your games on?
I looked up my media code and found out my manufacturer that i had been using is Mitsumi.
