I have just backed up GTA VC and Tomb Raider AoD on top-quality TDK media, and while the loading and data-intensive Vice City plays like the original on my V.4 messiah 2 mod-chipped PS2, the Tomb Raider disk is rarely recognised, and if it is, it doesn't boot past the "playstation 2" logo. I used exactly the same burning methods with exactly the same media, on exactly the same PS2. Shouldn't tomb raider load faster/better than gta? I mean. it's a smaller file size and it doesn't require as much loading.... Am I missing something? Do I need a patch? Any ideas? Thanks

What prog and version of it did you use? No patching is necessary.

For both I made a ".gi" (global image) file onto the hard drive using RecordNow Max 4.5 at 'min' speed setting, and then burnt them, again using Recordnow Max 4.5 at 1x.

My media doesn't say how fast it can be burnt at, and there doesn't seem to be an option in Recordnow Max, how do I find out how fast I can burn it at (besides actually trying to burnt it at 2x)?

Just choose max. If it burns at 2x you likely have 2x media.

That's a stupid Idea to choose 'MAX'... What if it burns at 4x and it was 4x media... I hope you like the laser strain and your dead laser in a couple of months.

    -_-' stick with 1x.

Also, on a sidenote... I would stay away from playing GTA: Vice City as it is constantly reading in the laser.

What the hell are you talking about? There is nothing wrong with burning at 4x. Sometimes burning at 1x can actually give you a worse burn than it would if you burn at 2x or 4x. Please don't tell me you bought a 106 and burn at 1x all the time.

Ok guys, chill out. I've got a Pioneer 105, and I've burnt at 4x, 2x and 1x, but that has never seemed to make a difference in terms of loading time/gameplay, no matter what speed. Anyway, Tomb Raider is playing ok now, and even loaded straight away. I think it down to how much the laser has been used recently, because I left the PS2 overnight, first thing I tried was tomb raider and it loaded immediately. If the laser has just been used (for me anyway), it seems to affect performance, so if I just let it cool down I tend to get better results. As for GTA Vice City, it's playing fine (besides very rare occasions when it brings up that annoying "loading" screen for a while).
Also, just to say, Tomb Raider sucks. So many small glitches and errors it's unbelievable, and the gameplay is so rigid. I'm at the top of the derelict house and I keep trying to get on top of the box to jump across to the ledge and it wont let me climb up the box. Also, when I do manage to climb onto the box, I try and jump across to grab the railing, but she doesnt grip it, am I doing something wrong?

You have to be joking me... If burning at 1x... It will not be worse than burning at a higher speed. It is more reliable... Maybe your ps2 acts different than mine....

I only use MAX speed for DVD Movie burning.

*P.S. - I would kill for that NES collection you have on ebay* If I had the money for shipping or lived by you I would probably take you up on it.
