Which of these 2 methods is more reliable for compiling DVD ISOs ?

I am new to dvd burning, thats why i am asking this stupid question...

well, i found a tutorial on exploit station.com, explaining how to use $ony CD/DVD Gen with CDVDGen ISOBuilder to make an ISO....then i also came across a tool known as IML2DVD 1.01, which i assume takes the iml made by $ony CD/DVDGen, to also generate an ISO....

i tried both of these methods and compared the 2 ISOs..there were about 161 differences, which is probably not a lot...

but still, which of these 2 methods should i adopt to compile Shrinked DVD Images ??

IsoBuster to extract the ISO, and CDGenPS2 to rebuild it. Thats what I use and there are only 2 games that I couldn't do with it because of a 2GB file limit.

Use $ony's cd\dvdgen to build iso and then create the iml and ims file.Then use gnie's gdvd4-iml2iso v4 to rebuild the iso.Checkout here for his tool :

i dont think i shud use CDGenPS2, cuz the images it makes are not UDF/ISO, and i think this is needed for a DVD-R to work on the ps2....i think the name gives it away as well...'CD' GenPS2,...it works when i am compiling CD Based images....


but can i still use the two methods that i specified above ?

CDGen works with cd and dvd. You can specify to save as bin/cue or iso.

yes but the images it makes do not hav UDF/ISO, they just have ISO...i think the ps2 needs UDF as well, to read DVD-Rs properly...why, cuz i burnt a shrinked copy of soul calibur 3, 4 times, and it doesnt work,...the shrinked images didnt have UDF, and was compiled using CDGenPS2,...the same case has happened with Black, on which i wasted 2 DVD-Rs....

plus, i have also read on numberous threads, that UDF is highly recommended, if not required for PS2 DVDs....

Shrinking images for DVD's is NOT recommended. That might be why it's not loading. Shrinking is ok for HDD though.

i think shrinking DVDs for burning is ok for some purposes....for example, i read on a site, that when burning a lot of data, e.g. over 4GB, the laser is not 100% focused, cuz it has to maintain a velocity, and burn at higher rotation speeds...thus, if u can reduce the amount of data to be burnt, u reduce chances of a bad burn...

Well, I don't know much, but I'm pretty sure the purpose of a dummyfile is to push the data (read by the laser) to the outer edges of the CD or DVD (in your case). This is done because the laser will first start to read the outer edge of a CD/DVD, and then work it's way to the center of the CD/DVD. I guess this is one of the reasons it's recommended that you add the extra padding to the ISO, and also why Sony adds these extra paddings/dummyfiles/false lba themselves. Although, I'm not really sure what the negative effects are from having the laser read data that's closer to the center right away, and maybe there's other reasons why this is not recommended.

hmm...i guess u have a point too....anyways, getting back to the question....which is the better route to compile a DVD image:

1) $ony CD/DVDGen --> IML2DVD v1.01 (using IML from $ony CD/DVDGen) to compile image...

2) $ony CD/DVDGen --> make 'broken' image (.000,.001...) thru $ony CD/DVDGen--> combine pieces with CDVDGen ISOBuilder 1.2 ....
