I've tried using a TDK dvd-rw in the ps2 and I get 'Disc read error' and in the xbox 'no disc' - what's going on? Is it the media or the hardware?

Not all ps2s or xbox's can read the -rw media try a -r verbatim, ritek, or apple disk and then let us know what happens

the thing is, i bought 2 TDK dvd-r disks at the same time, and managed to copy 'blinx' and 'the thing' for xbox and they both work perfectly, and i've also used princo 4x dvd-r in the xbox, and they work

If you have a v1-v4, your ps2 most likely wont play any dvd-rw.

You need to have a mod to play backups. What version ps2 do you have? You might be able to play dvd-r but probably not dvd-rw if you have a v1-v4.

first off if you have a TDK, you have a +r not a -r.

i have a v5 chipped with an apple and the TDK dvd+r/rw burner. I used Fuji media and have never had a coaster I've birned about 100 DVD games with it and the only prob I have is with The Getaway, it locks up and goes goofy on me, but thats probably due to a bad burn (burned too fast).

    Good luck

No, i have a TDK dvd-rw DISK, and a pioneer dvr 105/A05 dvd rewriter. I've tried using a TDK dvd-r, and that worx fine, but a TDK dvd-rw doesn't. Is it the brand of dvd-rw that could be the problem?

-rws dont work in every PS2 (no matter what brand they are)

Every PS2 has a lasers that is set at the factory within a range (to read originals only) no 2 ps2s have the same value DVD-rs are made from an ink and dvd-rw are made from an orgainc metal alloy compound that phase changes. They have a diferent reflectivity than dvd-rws (the higher the reflectivity the easier it is to read)

The reflectivity of RWs is lower than -rs and I would say that the majority of version 1-4 cant handle them and some 5's are included in this.

I would say that if you are really concerned about reading -RW's you can try to adjust it but if you are not good at this I woldnt attempt it or you might want to sell that one and pick up a version 7 (also since all lasers are are set at different settings there is also no garantee on a version 7 but your chances or higher of getting one that can read +/-RW's)

My version 7 will real -/+r's and -/+RW's with no problem

The new version of the ps2 (comming out in Japan on may 15 ) will read dvd(-)r/rw,dvd(+)r/rw. Sony felt that people wanted more compatiblity for movies but it might be harder to chip we'll see

Thanks for that. I think i'll try maybe one more brand of dvd-rw, because the xbox can't read it either, and test my luck. Btw, I'm trying to chip my ps2, and i'm having major problems with the 'sony' chip with the absolutely TINY points. I've used the razor blade technique, but even then i get splashes of solder on the other point next to it (the one without the razor blade protecting it). The points are about the size of the wire itself. Any other methods? Oh, and the soldering iron keeps touching and spreaing the damn blue tack. Thanks
