Sony Sabotage for Game Backups?
Sony Sabotage for Game Backups? –
I saw where one mentioned this, and searched the forums, but didn't get
any hits. I'm new to the playing of backups. I successfully installed McBoot
and ESR, and have made rips of several of my games, and am now playing
them, seemingly just fine. OTOH, I saw where Sony seemingly sabotaged
the old systems so the LASER would burn out with backups. Is this verified?
The reason I want to use backups, is because I already had one DVD get
a crack in it, and it only makes sense not to play the original distribution
if you don't have to. However, I don't want to burn out my LASERs, either.
All the systems I use are the original fat version. The one I have access to
right now is SCPH-39001. Any problem running that one with backups?
If you use Verbatim or Sony DVD-R disks and burn them at 4x speed, you should be fine as I have the same model ps2 which I have been using backups on the ps2 for the past year now on my 10+ year old ps2 and it's still working like it's brand new, but if you have a network adapter and an IDE hdd, use HD loader so you don't have to worry about the laser dieing and you also get much much faster load times.
The model that you probably read from the lasers failing when reading backups is the scph 70000 series 1st gen slimline ps2s which were a piece of crap that even had problems reading legit ps2 games.
