Software for burning dvd+r

im kinda new to all of this so it might be a dumb question to ask but, what softawre do i need to burn dvd+r? ive tried fireburner and cdrwin but every time i try they say the disc is an unrecognizable format. so if anyone can help me ill greatly appreciate it.
