    Hi all.
i was able to reduce the game using Gnie but i cant play any of the real songs. The song creator fully works and i can play the Neversoft custom songs.
I used Swap Magic 3.6 and it started up fine. Hopefully someone figures out something soon.

Thanks guys for the efforst your all making.

Ok I mentioned on alucard.cc/forums that you are working on this.

But if you go to their forum you will see the progress psychospacefish is making so far.

you will need to register there.

It looks like the only way to back up this DVD9 game is to 2 DVD5 discs.

Ok, here's what I've done so far.. maybe someone can help.

All 4 times I've tried to burn I've patched with ESR and used GUI ESR with the option "off". All burned on dvd9+r dl at the slowest speed possible (x2.4) using nero burning rom.

The first 2x I'd burned it to memorex dvds. GUI ESR wouldn't even read the disc. It would say "no media in drive". Tried to launch the dvd, nothing would happen.
The third time I'd burned I changed media to a sony dvd. GUI ESR wouldn't even read the disc. It would say "no media in drive". Tried to launch the dvd, nothing would happen.

So I started to do some research with burning dvd9's since I never burned one before. Found out that when burning dvd9's you had to set the booktype to dvd-rom. The only way I could even find the booktype option was if I made a "copy" of the dvd. So, I mounted the activiton.iso file in daemon tools and used nero to copy and burn the image.

Some success. GUI ESR would recognize a "ps2dvdmedia" in the drive. Launched dvd. I would get the different colors to flash on the screen, but it would stay stuck on purple for about 5-10 seconds (never done that before), then it would continue with the rest of the colors. After that nothing, blank screen. The laser in my ps2 will act like it's trying to read the disc, because the disc continues to spin and the laser eye will move. But I get nothing but a blank screen.

Now I know the media I have is not the best. Memorex sucks, but I've seen other people have used it. Even to burn xbox360 games. Sony is not the best, but I always burn my dvd5 with sony. So I don't know.

What I'm thinking is maybe I need to burn at a slower speed, like x1. But I can't figure out how. After inserting the blank dvd9 into my drive nero will only allow me to burn at a minimum of x2.4. I've seen where others have said they burned at slower speeds then x2.4. I know the dvd's have a maximum write speed, but do they have a minimum?

When I first started burning ps2 games it took alot of trial and error on my part. I read alot of different ways to burn dvd5s, and I tried alot of them untill I found the best way that worked for me. So I figured this is no different. I want to learn how to burn dvd9s, not just for this game but, for future games as well.

Thanks to anyone who has read all this and has any suggestions.

I hate to say I wish people would read.

For DVD9 backups you need to use Verbatim DL DVD+R and burn it with Imgburn at 2.4x speed.
Make sure you PS2 laser is in good shape and is cleaned.

I do read, more then you could know.
I have some verbatims being shipped to me right now. I just want to know if I may be doing something else wrong so that when I do get my verbatims I don't waste any. I rather trial and error on these stupid memorex and sony.

Do you think Imgburn is a better burning software then nero? If you read the first post you would see nero has the highest success rate. But I will keep your suggestion of Imgburn in mind.

You can use Nero if you want. I have used Imgburn for all my DVD9 backups to create and burn and never had a problem yet using the Verbatim DL DVD+R discs.

I am sure you do read and thats good. For DVD9 backups it is not so much that other brands are crap, except that memorex is. Just that they don't work with the PS2 laser.

I have tried Ritek in the past, tried Verbatim DL DVD-R and no luck. Many others in the past few years have also tried.
These other brands are fine for Video etc, just not for the PS2 DVD9 backups.

So just best to use the Verbatim DL DVD+R and burn at 2.4x

Plus your laser needs to be in good shape.

Good insite info Wind.. Ill have to check out that site in a bit and see whats going on over there..

Nero is the default program of choice.. I for one use IMGBurn as well.. However the program does not see some Dual layer burners..
Nero on the other hand does and thats why I have it listed the way I do on the front page.. Plus Nero in many ways is easyer to use for the noobs out there..

Ill have to agree that Verbatim is the way to go.. Some other media also works however for some odd reason they will not "print" as "deep" as Verbatim disks do..

yes DVD5 looks as of now will never happen for a single disk only.. I have been playing around with the files and keep getting stuck with a file thats just 826Mbs over the limit for DVD5 disks..

I havent givin up yet.. I sure hope you all wont as well..
With the release now here I'm sure more folks will be around to give out a hand..

    later,

Has anyone been able to get the dup files removed and the image rebuilt for hdloader? It would save almost 2 gigs on the harddrive. All my tries crash after load screen with progress bar. I have tried to rebuild with cd/dvd gen using both layers with dup files removed but cannot find a program to create an iso from the iml created. All the programs I have tried only make the first layer in the conversion.
