Ritek GO4 to GO5 –
04-30-2005,05:36 AM
I've been using Ritek printable GO4's to back up movies and plenty or PS2 games, for the last two years. Never had any problems with them!
Recently I'm finding it hard to find the GO4 printable discs, it seems that most stockest dont have them any more.
I think that I will have to start to order the Printable GO5's.
I understand that the GO5 are 8x speed, to that of the GO4 4xspeed. Can anyone tell me if they are as good as the GO4's, to back up PS2 games, and will they work just as good burning at 4x speed?
Cheers
Rox

Most users noticed that the G05 is not that good quality in most case as the G04 has been. As I can see you have a Pioneer burner that does not have that many problems with the G05, try to burn them at 4x. My Plextor and NEC drives hate G05, but are very keen on G04, that's why I still use them, no matter they are 4x rated only *my NEC drives can write them at 8x though, but I prefer 4x*

Using a pioneer A07, Ritek G05's and a v12 console I've had some success burning at 2x, but choppy FMV or coasters burning at 4x or higher. They work, but personally I'm going to be trying those Taiyo Yuden discs everyone keeps raving about next time.

Taiyo Yudens are very impressive DVD-R?s. But they are also expensive! I?ve got a couple here I paid about $3.50 a piece for a long time ago. I?ve seen weak PS2 and Xbox lasers that would only read originals and absolutely no other DVD-R would read at all but these TY disks would work perfectly. In fact, I had a bad xbox drive that wouldn?t even read any original pressed DVD?s and it would read the TV DVD-R perfectly!
Well, I guess they're not too expensive, I just found 100 DVD-R 8X TY's for $40 Canadian on ebay!! I hope these 8X are as good as the old 4X!

I've been using a Pioneer A07 with G05's for a little while now. Not one single problem has occurred when burning PS2/Xbox/Movie! I use the burnt discs on my consoles, PC and even standalone DVD/DivX players, without any issues. I tend to burn at 4x rather than 8x, and that's only because I have a shitty PC which slows down very badly at high speed burning.

Do not buy too many at once. There are a tons of fake TY disks these days, AS it is a wellknown MID and most drives can write that, so fake disk makers use TY or TTG01/TTG02, YUDEN001, YUDEN002 MID's just to sell their craps. Of course those quality is worse but identified by the drive as an ORIGINAL Tayio Yuden disk... Unfortunatelly MID's are not an exact way to identify disks.

pS: Snoop, yes the A07/107 is a very good drive. Just like the A08, but the A09 is not that perfect *yet*.

Damn. I just ordered 150 from shop4tech.com. Does anyone know if they are a reputable reseller, and if I'm likely to recieve fakes? Also, is there any way to tell by their appearance?

8x TYG02 are excellent but verify for sure that they are Taiyo Yuden's own unbranded discs before bidding. A number of manufacturers (ie Sonic, Matrix) display the TYG02 code but in fact they are fakes. If you live in the US, I can recommend the following two sites for genuine unbranded TY. If you are a complete quality freak and demand TY's premium line of TY discs then go with www.rima.com. About 50-60 cents a disc shipped for premium quality TY. If you don't mind a slightly lower quality disc, you can get some excellent deals on TY's value line discs. These are a little lower in quality than the premium line but they are significantly cheaper than the Premium discs and are still better than approximately 95% of the other media out there. The PI/PO error-rate scans that I have seen on these so far are excellent. Anyways, www.supermediastore.com for the value TY.

Did you order discs that were actually labeled as TY or were they under another label (ie Sonic, Matrix) and someone claimed that they had the Taiyo Yuden media ID? The discs that are actually sold under the Taiyo Yuden brand are actual TY (value line TY) but the re-brands (ie Sonic and Matrix) are fakes. The easiest way to avoid the fakes is to stick to the discs that are being sold as TY and not discs that are being sold under another label but claim the TY media ID. I have yet to hear of discs being sold as TY that are fake.
