Is it pointless to burn a ps2 rip to a dvd-r? Like will it run smoother if it has been burnt to a dvd-r instead of a cd-r? (<-- to reduce laser wear)

i don't believe this will work as dvd games need dvd checks. And rips usually take out the dvd checks so that they can be played off cdr. In regards to laser wear, good quality cdr media will do as much damage as good quality dvdr media.. i think...

how long should i play with dvdr's and cdr's before i should replace my ps2's laser?
Im not sure why not many people answer this. I notice that copys
I got from some 1 dvdr based games make the same laser reading noise just like originals the top of this media looks just like the bottom of the cdr and the bottom is purple in color
So that tells me that it is posible to use that can of media if only we new what to use we can prolong laser life on our ps2
It will likely last the life of the unit, as long as you use good quality media and clean it periodically...Originally posted by tr4il
