Rip Kits –
Is a rip kit a whole game or what? What is a 'rip kit?' Please help me! I MUST get my backups working!!!
A "rip-kit" helps you extract just the necessary amount of audio and data information from the full original DVD release (which may be over 4GB at times) to make the game functional.
Typically you have to put up with down-sampled audio and video, plus any FMV cut scenes get chucked out the door and excess audio tracks get eliminated and looped to use the same one or two tunes in the process. If the original DVD was large, then you wind up with a multi-disc CD-R set in which you have to concern yourself with vaild disc swap points and game save points in order to start off on the next disc and continue the game.
Frankly, it's a royal pain in the ass. Just save the money you're spending on all that CD-R stuff and get a DVD-R burner. Why be content to play just half a game...?
I have Auto Modellista though on a CDR and it works VERY VERY good. It has sound, movie, etc. It is on a MAXELL CDR, I am going to buy a 50pk today probably.
