resident evil 4 hangs...*spoilers..*

i made a backup of NTSC RE4 disc using alcohol120%. played the game pretty far with the backup, but i cant get past chapter 5-2 now. Right at the end of the room with lasers that you dodge, thers a door. i cant get past that. Open the switch and then the game freezes. The disc sounds like its not being read; makes a weird regular rhythmic noise. i made a second backup just in case of a bad burn...same problem.

i have a v9 with a magicV.

any ideas? is this a common problem?

does the same thing happen with the original. have you tried cleaning the laser?

nope, original is fine. i havent done anything to the console since i got it, other than get it modded a long time ago.

now im thinking maybe a read error when i made the backup...because i didnt untick the box that said "skip errors and continue" or whatever....

try it with another program like dvd decrypter

try different media and burn slower, taiyo or verbatim = best

well now original doesnt work either. crap.
edit: ive cleaned the lens just now. game loads faster for sure. But it still stalls at that door. even when using the ORIGINAL. The game boots and plays just fine. Its just at this particular place in this particular game...

any ideas?

finish the game on a different ps2

OMG. I am both pissed and relieved. I went to a friends place to use his ps2 to get past this. Didnt work. Game froze as usual. im thinking WTF. by sheer accident i pressed X among other things. lo and behold the game continued.
...........................................Tried it again on my ps2...surprise surprise, it works when you press X.

So, to all you people dumb enough as i was to not figure it out, PRESS X. grrrr..
