Rebuilding a ps2 dvd
Rebuilding a ps2 dvd –

Basically this is the situation.
I've got an original UK PAL Tony Hawk's project 8 for the ps2, scratched something awful, it boots, most of the time, but sometimes, it just freezes.
I've recently discovered that it's one file that's damaged beyond repair, tried a few programs to repair, but to no avail.
I've got a friend with a US NTSC original, and noticed that the problem file from my PAL disc, is the same size as his file on the NTSC disc.
You can probably see where I'm going with this, rip my disc, minus the music.wad that's causing all the problems, replace with the file from his disc, and hopefully, i can play my game again.
I know it might not work, but is there anything I need to be aware of before even attempting this, like burn order onto the dvd or something?
Thanks for your time.

I do have a game store nearby that will repair disc's, but i've tried 2 disc's with them before, and they still don't work, so I'm loathe to give them more money just yet.

I see no problem with doing that just use a program like ps2dvdgen to make sure u have the correct lba and file structure other than that u should have no problems

couldn't find the program you mentioned dangwoot, but isobuster will let me see the lba for each file in the .iso's i've made, so i'll try and burn my mixed up disc later
thanks for the replies guys

I'm in the process of ripping my original at the moment, it's taking forever, the log is fit to burst.
I guess I'll be doing this sometime tomorrow now, must remember to put the amount of retries per erroneous sector down to 5 instead of 20 the next time I have a similar problem.

Well, I just had a go at getting this all to work, and when I went to patch it so I can use it with esr, esr patcher crashed.
If I try patching my pal version (with dodgy music.wad) it patches fine, if I try to patch my mates ntsc version, esr patcher crashes as well.
One thing I noticed, when I "fix" my pal .iso, all the LBA's change, it appears to do it relatively, so I'm not sure how to sort this out now.
Any suggestions or an idiot proof guide would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Edit : Just tried replacing the music.wad file, with the one from the .iso of my mates, with poweriso, and it just patched okay, so i'll try burning it, and see what happens.
Edit2 : Well, that didn't work, i obviously need a program that allows me to specify the LBA's for the entire disc, so I can re-author the .iso from scratch. Just need a suggestion of what program can do this.

just discovered a program called insiso, which will apparently let me overwrite a file in an .iso, with an alternative file, allowing me to specify lba's for each file.
just tried to do it, and it says "Error: Sector Size of thp8.iso is not 2048 it is 0"
so it looks like i've made a mess of creating the iso from my original disc.
any suggestions, as it took about 10hours to rip the disc the last time, i don't want to have to do it again.
