I'm trying to copy Ratchet & Clank using Pioneer DVR-104. I have tried Nero, PrimoDVD, and RecordNow Max. All give me verification errors. I have done other PS2 DVD-R burns with no problem so I know it's not the media or hardware.

Does this mean my source DVD is bad? Has anyone else burned a one-to-one DVD-R copy of Ratchet & Clank successfully?

Yes, it's copied flawlessly with PrimoDVD (aka RecordNow).

If you're getting errors on the Read cycle (create GI), the source disc is the problem.

If you're getting verification errors after the Burn cycle (compare the data on the burned disc to the image on HD), its likely the brand of media you're using. Best to stick to known 2x certified media burned at 2x on the Pioneers.

BTW: I've deleted your unnecessary duplicate post over in the CD-R and DVD rip forum.

The verification error is AFTER the 1X burn cycle. I've tried Ritek, Princo, and Maxell. Odd that the media would be at fault since all three brands have worked on previous DVD-R burns. I then tried a (recommended) Meritline 2x (advdinfo = TDK) which I had hanging around and I burned at 1X to be conservative. I got the same error at the same place when verifying (Error at sector 206888). I'm thinking your theory on verification errors may not be universal. Perhaps the DVD master has some bad sectors that in a 1:1 copy are getting translated across. Any ideas?

No, the source is not scratched. If it were, wouldn't I be getting read errors when the .gi is being created?

Note that I said "errors" not verification errors on the Read cycle.

When was the last time you defragged your hard drive, as the verification cycle is doing a bit-for-bit comparision between the data on the disc and the image data on the hard drive (which is why I suspected your brand of media.)

An option might be to try a burn with verification off and see if the disc plays correctly anyway.

Why not try writing the game to your hard drive & recording it from there?
No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

I thought a DVD-R needed to be a bit-for-bit copy. Are you saying that you can simply copy all the files off a DVD and then burn as a data DVD (UDF) with Nero? If no "image" is necessary, why all the RecordNow Max "image" evangelism?

Ah...but an image IS necessary, as things need to be in the correct place on the disc to play right. Try a drag-n-drop copy of a disc sometime and see how it goes...

As for PrimoDVD / RecordNow, it's simply a much better all around program than Nero, especially for DVDs. Nero may be ok for CD-Rs, but it sucks for DVDs (and doesn't support single GI or split GI files, which have become very mainstream in certain circles...)
