if we are still using DVD technology in 50 years then something went horribly wrong with storage technology research !!!! its only 20 years ago that 3 1/2 floppy drivers were the best/ biggest removable storage. I haven't built a computer in the last few years that even had a floppy drive. God knows where the next tech will come from and it might not even be optical at any wavelength!! red to blue to UV to microwave? who knows??? flat disks to crystal lattice cubes...???
wireless SSD storage like a USB key that holds multi TB of data and you can keep it in your pocket?? lol i have burnt CD's that are over 10 years old that still work quite fine. if you are that OCD about storage then diversify your backup into several disks of different brands and also different methods.. disks and backup HDD and why not backup tapes as well? and redo them every 2 to 3 years?
Bottom line is i think the disks will out last the technology.
