PS2 Copy Protection
I have heard that some PS2 games are now protected in such a way that any back ups will not work. Assuming I have a modchip installed, are there any PS2 games that will not work as a back up (other than dvd9). If yes, are there any programs to overcome this issue.
I don't know of any that have copy protection at this point. There are some online games that can detect the use of a mod-chip.
The only protection which exists on certain PS2 titles is called FADE. This was implemented last year on the major titles by Codemasters games such as Prisoner of War, and Colin McRae Rally 3.
This protection only affects CDR Rips though, not DVD 1:1 backups.
There are no protections on dvd games at all.
MEtal gear 2 substance has copy protection dvd9 if im not for sure i know the ps2 and xbox version can't be copyed to disk but the xbox version can be copyed to the hard drive of a xbox then played from their...
On the copy protection named as FADE.
Are these games CD based. If so can't they be backed up using cdClone. As a newbie, I thought all new games were dvd based.
Bottom line. If a game is FADE protected, it can't be backed up at all?
In my opinion the Media-check is kind of an copy-protection... But then you have to know how to rip it to cd-r first...
CloneCD will take care of the fade protection.
@number 17. He said other than dvd9.
*sigh*....doesn't any one bother to read the tutorials these days?
I've only got two hands people--can only slap two at once!
What was that famous quote? "...so many a$$holes, so little time..."
Look, the basic copy protection is in the boot sector. This cannot be copied. That is why you need an alternative boot method that bypasses loading from this 2 minute pregap on your backup copy. Hence, the ModChip. There is an exception with some EA games and such that need to be patched because of specific "strings" of expected data that also may not get copied. This is usually done with PPF files. Tutorials and lists are available--if not here, on other forums/personal sites. Search for them.
Best, no brainer, stable solutions:
CloneCD properly configured for CD-Based PS2 Backups, with CD-RWIN and PPF-o-Matic for patching when necessary.
CloneCD compliant CD-Burner
PrassiPrimo/RecordNow MAX or DVDDecrypter and supported DVD-R burner for DVD based PS2 Backups. (DVD+R will work on some newer boxes, but only -R is proven success on older PS2's)
Alcohol and Nero products are also great tools and loved by many. They have become the defacto products for burning homebrews and RIPS. There are specific tutorials available for how to use these tools effectively as well.
All else is prone to problems that have been covered in various stickies and general postings. Look them up.
