PS2 CD-R and drive noise
PS2 CD-R and drive noise –
I have a PS2 v6 with DMS3 v2 and have strange drive noises with ps2 games on cd-r. The games boot fine but the drive makes a strange noise all the time, even if it is not reading.
I don't have the noise with dvd-r or original dvd and I also don't have the noise with ps1 cd-r when I boot into psx mode.
Actually there is no noise when booting a cd-r with psx mode and it is always there when booting in ps2 mode.
Is there some sort of auto detection in ps2 mode to detect if it is a cd-r or dvd-r ?
If the laser needs to be adjusted, how can it be that the noises aren't there in psx mode?
by ps2 games on cd-r you surely mean dvd-rips because full cd games work without noise
the noise is because it's heavily searching the data on a specific sector
and it must read the cd fast enough otherwise you will experience very little speed problems for about 0,5-2 secs
well that's what i could figure out with all my dvd-rips
Well I am not talking about dvd rips, it is a normal backup of a ps2 cd game. The noise is constant and always there even without loading. For example when I am in the main menu and nothing has to be loaded, there is always a constant noise. Sounds almost like some fast clicking.
But despite that the game works just fine.
Yeah I think this is normal for PS2's esp v9. I have Virtua Tennis 2 original PAL ver. It is a cd game, and on the menu the ps2 dvd drive will squeak away. The game runs fine though.
My ps2 is not even 6 months old yet and not modded so I dont think your laser is faulty.
