Hello, new to the PS2 world and was wondering if PS2 games have copy protection on them yet? or can I just go ahead and use DVDdecrypter for DVD disks and Nero for CDR games? Any other program recomendations?

    Thanks

DVDDecrypter works fine for DVD5 games. With DVD9 games it's a bit trickier.

Yeah, you have to extract both layers to the same place, then try & rip uneeded stuff out, like dummy files, or downsample audio/video so that it'll fit on DVD5.

If you're new to PS2 then I wouldnt bother, you'll only waste time & discs

Or you could just spend a bit extra and go with double layer discs. 10 packs of D/L Verbatim DVD+R on sale for $20 at Best Buy this week (if you live in the US). Set the booktype to DVD-ROM and you have the best double layer discs available. At $2 a disc IMHO it is well worth saving the hassle of butchering a game.

it does need a patch...or something

this is the first game that has "real" protection on it
not since the old ps2 days has this been used, and i am guessing at that......
it has,i believe an anti-mod device protection on it,and there is as yet,no way of booting it
even the original doesnt boot on a chipped ps2,unless the chip is disabled

i am waiting for one of the hardcore teams to crack this, and hope it the last one released...

This game has a ver weird filesystem on it.

it has 2 layers, but the second layer appears to be a clone of the first layer with a different filesystem! This probably confuses many chips dual layer backup support, and if this second layer is not present and functioning properly the game will not work.

Also the game appears tohave modchip detection routines as well, for all major modchips. Th MARS chip is rumored to work.
