Problem with Pioneer DVD-R
Problem with Pioneer DVD-R –
I have a bunch of backups on Pioneer DVD-R discs (white branded top with purple bottom). They used to work fine in my Apple V6, but now I am getting lots of problems with read errors (game movies skipping, stopping, etc). Initially, I thought the laser was going to hell but the machine is only 2 months old and backups burned on Mitsui Gold DVD-R work fine.
The store that sold me the machine said that there is something wrong with purple media and that I should only use gold media. Isn't the majority of DVD media purple??
Anyone ever hear of this? Or have problems with Pioneer media? I burn at 2x on a Pioneer DVR-104 if that matters.
B.S. The majority of purple dye discs are just fine and the Pioneers are top quality anyway. If things worked fine before, just run a Blaze cleaning disc through your PS2 two or three times in a row to throughly clean the laser and your problems should disappear...
Yeah, it sounded like BS to me too. I tried a CD Lens Cleaner disc I had, but it is supposed to be an audio CD that talks while it is cleaning. However, it doesn't work on my PS2 (does the PS2 even support audio CD?).
Where can I get a Blaze cleaning disc?
Most gaming stores have them. I found mine at Electronics Boutique for $9.95. EB is a division of Babbage, so you could try either the EB or Babbage's website. BestBuy might have them too...
