I'm just wondering, there's this game which is supposed to be 2 gigs, but then it's somehow edited/compressed to fit a single cd. Whenever I play I hear some weird noises coming from my PS2, is it safe to play the game? Will it break the laser or something?
    Pls help!

Many rips are very hard on the laser. Get a dvd burner and your ps2 will like you much more.

Arrrrrrrr, bighap be correct. DVD-rips are like puttin' yer PS2 through a 3 hour workout with the biggest steroid poppin' muscle head at yer local gym. It'll work, but yer PS2 will die a lot faster if ye play those rips too much, so it will.

if the rip is a pure raw rip with no alterations, and you burn it to the exact media it came from, CD to CD or DVD to DVD, then the only problem you'd have is if the recordable disks you are using have terrible reflectivity thus increasing the need for error checking on the PS2. Staty away form rips that put DVD games on CD, very bad idea, stupid in fact.

The PS2's that received the much needed brighter laser, somewhere around V3 or V4.... have no problem with most DVD-R's, PS2's have to be able to read dual layer disks. The second layer of a DVD has lower reflectivity, so DVD-R disks are comparable [notice i said comparable, not near the same] to the second layer of a professional DVD, which is a good thing for DVD backups.

something else. burning images made to fit on a cd, onto a dvd doesnt help anything either. altho tons of people seem to think it does..

rips are crap. however, dvdrs can be expensive(well, compared to cdrs at least). so if you wanted to say... try it on a cdr for a few minutes to see if it was worth burning on a dvdr, then go for it. playing a rip for 20 minutes every once in a while wont kill your ps2.

but then again you could also just rent the game and save yourself the trouble.

But then again having to replace your original is even MORE expensive...

Laoan, that has nothing to do with this thread, discuss it elsewhere.

Joe Mama, how is replacing an original "more expensive" just because rips are crap?
